Repentance is accepted up until before death

tirmidhi:3537 – Ibrāhīm b. Yaʿqūb > ʿAlī b. ʿAyyāsh > ʿAbd al-Raḥman b. Thābit b. Thawbān from his father > Makḥūl > Jubayr b. Nufayr > Ibn ʿUmar

from the Prophet ﷺ who said, "Indeed Allah accepts the repentance of a slave until he gurgles (takes the last breath)."

Abū ʿĪsá said: This ḥadith is Ḥasan-Gharīb. Also from Muḥammad b. Bishār > Abū ʿĀmir al-ʿAqdī > ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Thābit b. Thawbān > his father > Makḥūl > Jubayr b. Nufayr > Ibn ʿUmar > Prophet ﷺ with a similar meaning.

الترمذي:٣٥٣٧ – حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ ثَابِتِ بْنِ ثَوْبَانَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ مَكْحُولٍ عَنْ جُبَيْرِ بْنِ نُفَيْرٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ «إِنَّ اللَّهَ يَقْبَلُ تَوْبَةَ الْعَبْدِ مَا لَمْ يُغَرْغِرْ».

قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ غَرِيبٌ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَامِرٍ الْعَقَدِيُّ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ ثَابِتِ بْنِ ثَوْبَانَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ مَكْحُولٍ عَنْ جُبَيْرِ بْنِ نُفَيْرٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ نَحْوَهُ بِمَعْنَاهُ
