I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: ʿThe loyalty (walaʿ) of a freed slave (to his former master) is passed on to the one who inherits his wealth, father or son.”  

أحمد:٣٢٤ – حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ زَيْدٍ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ شُعَيْبٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ جَدِّهِعَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ قَالَ

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ يَرِثُ الْوَلَاءَ مَنْ وَرِثَ الْمَالَ مِنْ وَالِدٍ أَوْ وَلَدٍ  

ahmad:147 – Abū Saʿīd > ʿAbdullāh b. Lahīʿah > ʿAmr b. Shuʿayb from his father > Jaddihiʿan ʿUmar

ʿNo father is to be killed in retaliatory punishment for his sonʿ And the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: ʿThe one who inherits loyalty (wala - loyalty of a free slave) also inherits his wealth
