"عن مُجاهِد قال: كُتِبَ إلَى عُمَرَ: يَا أَمِيرَ المُؤمِنينَ! رَجُلٌ لا يَشْتَهِى المَعْصِيةَ وَلَا يَعْملُ بِها أَفْضَلُ، أَمْ رَجُل يَشْتَهِى المَعْصِيَةَ وَلَا يَعْمَلُ بها؟ فَكَتَبَ عُمَرُ: إِنَّ الذينَ يَشْتَهونَ المَعْصِيةَ ولَا يَعْمَلُون بِهَا أَولَئِكَ الذينَ امْتَحَنَ اللَّه قُلُوبَهُمْ لِلتَّقوَى لَهُمْ مَغفِرَةٌ وأَجْرٌ عَظِيم".
