[AI] I heard the Prophet ﷺ saying: "You should use this Indian aloeswood, for in it are seven cures. It is inhaled through the nose for al-udhrah, and administered through the side of the mouth for pleurisy."

I entered upon the Prophet ﷺ with a son of mine who had not yet eaten food, and he urinated on him. He then called for water and sprinkled it over it.

سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يَقُولُ: «عَلَيْكُمْ بِهَذَا الْعُودِ الْهِنْدِيِّ، فَإِنَّ فِيهِ سَبْعَةَ أَشْفِيَةٍ، يُسْتَعَطُ بِهِ مِنَ الْعُذْرَةِ، وَيُلَدُّ بِهِ مِنْ ذَاتِ الْجَنْبِ».

وَدَخَلْتُ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ بِابْنٍ لِي لَمْ يَأْكُلِ الطَّعَامَ، فَبَالَ عَلَيْهِ، فَدَعَا بِمَاءٍ فَرَشَّ عَلَيْهِ.

I went to Messenger of Allah ﷺ along with a a son of mine whose palate and tonsils I had pressed with my finger as a treatment for a (throat and tonsil) disease. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Why do you pain your children by pressing their throats! Use Ud Al-Hindi (certain Indian incense) for it cures seven diseases, one of which is pleurisy. It is used as a snuff for treating throat and tonsil disease and it is inserted into one side of the mouth of one suffering from pleurisy."

دَخَلْتُ بِابْنٍ لِي عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَقَدْ أَعْلَقْتُ عَلَيْهِ مِنَ الْعُذْرَةِ فَقَالَ عَلَى مَا تَدْغَرْنَ أَوْلاَدَكُنَّ بِهَذَا الْعِلاَقِ عَلَيْكُنَّ بِهَذَا الْعُودِ الْهِنْدِيِّ فَإِنَّ فِيهِ سَبْعَةَ أَشْفِيَةٍ مِنْهَا ذَاتُ الْجَنْبِ يُسْعَطُ مِنَ الْعُذْرَةِ وَيُلَدُّ مِنْ ذَاتِ الْجَنْبِ فَسَمِعْتُ الزُّهْرِيَّ يَقُولُ بَيَّنَ لَنَا اثْنَيْنِ وَلَمْ يُبَيِّنْ لَنَا خَمْسَةً قُلْتُ لِسُفْيَانَ فَإِنَّ مَعْمَرًا يَقُولُ أَعْلَقْتُ عَلَيْهِ قَالَ لَمْ يَحْفَظْ أَعْلَقْتُ عَنْهُ حَفِظْتُهُ مِنْ فِي الزُّهْرِيِّ وَوَصَفَ سُفْيَانُ الْغُلاَمَ يُحَنَّكُ بِالإِصْبَعِ وَأَدْخَلَ سُفْيَانُ فِي حَنَكِهِ إِنَّمَا يَعْنِي رَفْعَ حَنَكِهِ بِإِصْبَعِهِ وَلَمْ يَقُلْ أَعْلِقُوا عَنْهُ شَيْئًا

I visited Messenger of Allah ﷺ along with my son who had not, by that time, been weaned and he urinated over his (clothes). He ordered water to be brought and sprinkled (it) over them. She (further) said: I visited him (Allah's Apostle) along with my son and I had squeezed the swelling in the uvula, whereupon he said: Why do you afflict your children by compressing like this? Use this Indian aloeswood, for it contains seven types of remedies, one among them being a remedy for pleurisy. It is applied through the nose for a swelling of the uvula and poured into the side of the mouth for pleurisy.

“I brought a son of mine to the Prophet ﷺ, and I had pressed on an area of his throat due to tonsillitis. He said: ‘Why do you poke your children with this pressing?’ You should use this aloeswood, for in it there are seven cures. It should be inhaled for pustules in the throat, and given in the side of the mouth for pleurisy.” (Another chain) from Umm Qais bint Mihsan, from the Prophet ﷺ with similar wording.

[AI] She came with her son, and she had hung a necklace on him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to her, "Why do you hang your children with this necklace?" He then said to her, "You should use this Indian wood, as it has seven healing properties, including the healing of the side. Then, he took the child and blew into his mouth and called for water to clean him. Ibn Shihab said, "This became the practice after that."

[AI] Um Qais bint Muhsin, who was one of the early female migrants who pledged allegiance to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and she was the sister of Ukkashah ibn Muhsin. She informed me that she came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with her son who had not eaten food and was suffering from constipation. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Why do you tie your children with this suspension? Use this Indian oud (a piece of wood) known as the costus, as it has seven healing properties, including the one for constipation."

أَنَّ أُمَّ قَيْسِ بِنْتَ مِحْصَنٍ وَكَانَتْ مِنَ الْمُهَاجِرَاتِ الْأُوَلِ اللَّاتِي بَايَعْنَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَهِيَ أُخْتُ عُكَّاشَةَ بْنِ مِحْصَنٍ أَخْبَرَتْنِي أَنَّهَا أَتَتْ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ بِابْنٍ لَهَا لَمْ يَأْكُلِ الطَّعَامَ وَقَدْ أَعْلَقَتْ عَلَيْهِ مِنَ الْعُذْرَةِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «عَلَامَ تَدْغَرْنَ أَوْلَادَكُنَّ بِهَذَا الْإِعْلَاقِ؟ عَلَيْكُنَّ بِهَذَا الْعُودِ الْهِنْدِيِّ يَعْنِي بِهِ الْكُسْتَ فَإِنَّ فِيهِ سَبْعَةَ أَشْفِيَةٍ مِنْهَا ذَاتُ الْجَنْبِ»

[AI] She brought her little son to the Messenger of Allah, may ﷺ , and he had a urinary problem. The Messenger of Allah, may ﷺ , asked, "What do you call your children with these attachments?" He meant the Indian wood known as "Qist". He said, "Indeed, it has seven healing properties, including the side pain." Ubaidullah said, "Um Qais informed me that her son was suffering from a stone in the Prophet's room, so the Messenger of Allah, may ﷺ , prayed for water and poured it on his urine and did not wash it."

أَنَّهَا أَتَتْ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ بِابْنٍ لَهَا صَغِيرٍ لَمْ يَبْلُغْ أَنْ يَأْكُلَ الطَّعَامَ وَقَدْ أَعْلَقَتْ عَلَيْهِ مِنَ الْعَذِرَةِ فَهِيَ تَخَافُ أَنْ تَكُونَ بِهِ الْعَذِرَةُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «عَلَامَ تَدْغُرْنَ أَوْلَادَكُنَّ بِهَذِهِ الْعَلَائِقِ عَلَيْكُمْ بِهَذَا الْعُودِ الْهِنْدِيِّ فَإِنَّ فِيهِ سَبْعَةَ أَشْفِيَةٍ مِنْهَا ذَاتُ الْجَنْبِ»

Ali said, "Why do you burden your children with this fabric when you can burden them with this Indian oud?" "عَلَيكُمْ بهذا العودِ الهِندى، فإِنَّ فيه سبعةَ أشْفِية: يُستَعَطُّ به من العُذْرَة، وَيُلَدُّ به من ذاتِ الْجَنْبِ".
