The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade that a man who had long absent should come to his family like (an unexpected) night visitor. (Using translation from Muslim 715z)  

الكبرى للنسائي:٩٠٩٧ – أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ عَاصِمٍ عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ عَنْ جَابِرٍ قَالَ

نَهَى النَّبِيُّ ﷺ إِذَا أَطَالَ الرَّجُلُ الْغِيبَةَ أَنْ يَأْتِيَ أَهْلَهُ طُرُوقًا
