[Machine] Yes, we used to dislike the tawaf (circumambulation) between them (Safa and Marwa) because it was part of the pre-Islamic rituals, until this verse was revealed: "Indeed, As-Safa and Al-Marwah are among the symbols of Allah." (Verse 2:158 from Surah Al-Baqarah)  

الكبرى للنسائي:٣٩٤٥أَخْبَرَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الدَّوْرَقِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي زَائِدَةَ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي عَاصِمٌ الْأَحْوَلُ قَالَ قُلْتُ لِأَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ أَكُنْتُمْ تَكْرَهُونَ الطَّوَافَ بَيْنَ الصَّفَا وَالْمَرْوَةِ حَتَّى نَزَلَتِ هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ قَالَ

نَعَمْ كُنَّا نَكْرَهُ الطَّوَافَ بَيْنَهُمَا لِأَنَّهُمَا مِنْ شَعَائِرِ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ حَتَّى نَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ {إِنَّ الصَّفَا وَالْمَرْوَةَ مِنْ شَعَائِرِ اللهِ} [البقرة 158]
