Hilal bin Umaiyya accused his wife of illegal sexual intercourse and came to the Prophet ﷺ to bear witness (against her), (taking the oath of Lian). The Prophet ﷺ was saying, "Allah knows that either of you is a liar. Will anyone of you repent (to Allah)?" Then the lady got up and gave her witness.

أَنَّ هِلاَلَ بْنَ أُمَيَّةَ قَذَفَ امْرَأَتَهُ فَجَاءَ فَشَهِدَ وَالنَّبِيُّ ﷺ يَقُولُ إِنَّ اللَّهَ يَعْلَمُ أَنَّ أَحَدَكُمَا كَاذِبٌ فَهَلْ مِنْكُمَا تَائِبٌ ثُمَّ قَامَتْ فَشَهِدَتْ

Sa’d bin Jubair said I asked Ibn ‘Umar A man accused his wife of adultery? He said “The Apostle of Allaah ﷺ separated the brother and the sister of Banu Al ‘Ajilan (i.e., husband and wife). He said Allaah knows that one of you is a liar, will one of you repent? He repeated these words three times, but they refused. So he separated them from each other.

قُلْتُ لاِبْنِ عُمَرَ رَجُلٌ قَذَفَ امْرَأَتَهُ قَالَ فَرَّقَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ بَيْنَ أَخَوَىْ بَنِي الْعَجْلاَنِ وَقَالَ اللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ أَنَّ أَحَدَكُمَا كَاذِبٌ فَهَلْ مِنْكُمَا تَائِبٌ يُرَدِّدُهَا ثَلاَثَ مَرَّاتٍ فَأَبَيَا فَفَرَّقَ بَيْنَهُمَا

"I said to Ibn 'Umar: 'A man accused his wife.' He said: 'The Messenger of Allah separated the couple from Banu 'Ajlan and said: Allah knows that one of you is lying, so will either of you repent? He said that to them three times and they did not respond, then he separated them.'" (One of the narrators) Ayyub said: "Amr bin Dinar said: 'In this Hadith there is something that I think you are not narrating.' He said: 'The man said: My wealth. He said: You are not entitled to any wealth. If you are telling the truth, you have consummated the marriage with her, and if you are lying then you are even less entitled to it.'"

قُلْتُ لاِبْنِ عُمَرَ رَجُلٌ قَذَفَ امْرَأَتَهُ قَالَ فَرَّقَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ بَيْنَ أَخَوَىْ بَنِي الْعَجْلاَنِ وَقَالَ اللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ إِنَّ أَحَدَكُمَا كَاذِبٌ فَهَلْ مِنْكُمَا تَائِبٌ قَالَ لَهُمَا ثَلاَثًا فَأَبَيَا فَفَرَّقَ بَيْنَهُمَا قَالَ أَيُّوبُ وَقَالَ عَمْرُو بْنُ دِينَارٍ إِنَّ فِي هَذَا الْحَدِيثِ شَيْئًا لاَ أَرَاكَ تُحَدِّثُ بِهِ قَالَ قَالَ الرَّجُلُ مَالِي قَالَ لاَ مَالَ لَكَ إِنْ كُنْتَ صَادِقًا فَقَدْ دَخَلْتَ بِهَا وَإِنْ كُنْتَ كَاذِبًا فَهِيَ أَبْعَدُ مِنْكَ

قُلْتُ لِابْنِ عُمَرَ رَجُلٌ قَذَفَ امْرَأَتَهُ فَقَالَ فَرَّقَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بَيْنَ أَخَوَيْ بَنِي الْعَجْلَانِ وَقَالَ اللهُ يَعْلَمُ أَنَّ أَحَدَكُمَا كَاذِبٌ فَهَلْ مِنْكُمَا تَائِبٌ؟ فَأَبَيَا فَرَدَّدَهُمَا ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ فَأَبَيَا فَفَرَّقَ بَيْنَهُمَا

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ separated between the two brothers from the Banu Al-Ajlan tribe and said, "One of you is a liar. Are there any witnesses among you?" He repeated this three times.

فَرَّقَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بَيْنَ أَخَوَيْ بَنِي الْعَجْلَانِ وَقَالَ إِنَّ أَحَدَكُمَا كَاذِبٌ فَهَلْ مِنْكُمَاتَائِبٌ؟ ثَلَاثًا

"إِنَّ الله يَعْلَمُ أنَّ أحَدَكُمَا كَاذِبٌ! فَهَلْ مِنكُمَا تَائِبٌ؟ قَالهُ لِلمُتَلاعِنَين".
