10. The Two ʿĪd (Eid) Festivals
Yahya related to me from Malik from Damra ibn Said al-Mazini from Ubaydullah ibn Abdullah ibn Utba ibn Masud that Umar ibn al-Khattab asked Abu Waqid al-Laythi what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to recite in the prayers of Adha and Fitr. He said, "He used to recite Qaf (Sura 50) and al-lnshiqaq (Sura84)."
the freed slave of ʿAbdullāh b. ʿUmar said: I was at Adḥá and Fiṭr with Abū Hurayrah and he said allāhu akbar (Allah is greater) seven times in the first rakʿah, before the recitation, and five times in the second before the recitation.
Mālik said: That is what is done in our community. Mālik said: If a man finds people departing from the prayer on the day of ʿĪd he does not see the need for him to pray at the mosque or at his home. And if he were to pray at a muṣallá (designated place of prayer) or at his home, he does not find any problem with it, and if he were to say allāhu akbar seven times in the first before recitation and five times in the second before recitation.
