Warning against asking without need

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Whoever asks while he has what suffices him, he is only eating embers." And Zayd ibn Akhzam said: "Whoever asks without poverty, he is only eating embers."

ابن خزيمة:٢٢٥٠ – حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ وَزِيدُ بْنُ أَخْزَمَ الطَّائِيُّ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أَحْمَدَ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ حَدَّثَنَا حُبْشِيُّ بْنُ جُنَادَةَ السَّلُولِيُّ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ: «مَنْ سَأَلَ وَلَهُ مَا يُغْنِيهِ، فَإِنَّمَا يَأْكُلُ الْجَمْرَ»، وَقَالَ زَيْدُ بْنُ أَخْزَمَ: «مَنْ سَأَلَ مِنْ غَيْرِ فَقْرٍ، فَإِنَّمَا يَأْكُلُ الْجَمْرَ».
