ibnhibban:4506dIbn Shihāb Ākhtalafūā Yawmaʾidh Fī al-Tābūt > Zayd al-Tābūh > Ibn al-Zubayr And Saʿīd b. al-ʿĀṣ al-Tābūt Farufiʿ Ākhtilāfuhum > ʿUthmān Riḍwān Allāh ʿAlayh

[Machine] Write it down, for it is the tongue of Quraysh.  

ابن حبّان:٤٥٠٦dقَالَ ابْنُ شِهَابٍ اخْتَلَفُوا يَوْمَئِذٍ فِي التَّابُوتِ فَقَالَ زَيْدٌ التَّابُوهُ وَقَالَ ابْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ وَسَعِيدُ بْنُ الْعَاصِ التَّابُوتُ فَرُفِعَ اخْتِلَافُهُمْ إِلَى عُثْمَانَ رِضْوَانُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ فَقَالَ

«اكْتُبُوهُ التَّابُوتُ فَإِنَّهُ لِسَانُ قُرَيْشٍ»

and they differed on that day about ˹the spelling of the word˺ tābūt. Zayd said that ˹it should be˺ tābuh, while Saʿīd b. al-ʿĀṣ and Ibn Zubayr said that ˹it should be˺ tābūt. They then escalated their disagreement to ʿUthmān ؓ so he said: Write it as tābūt because it is in their dialect.
