ذِكْرُ وَصْفِ الْأَذَانِ الَّذِي كَانَ يُؤَذَّنُ بِهِ فِي أَيَّامِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ

[Machine] "The Adhan was pronounced twice during the time of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ , Abu Bakr, and Umar. But when Uthman became the Caliph and the number of people increased, he commanded a caller to proclaim the Adhan for the Zawra'a prayer."  

ابن حبّان:١٦٧٣أَخْبَرَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدُ بْنُ مُسَرْهَدٍ عَنْ يَحْيَى الْقَطَّانِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي ذِئْبٍ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنِ السَّائِبِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ قَالَ

«كَانَ الْأَذَانُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَأَبِي بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرَ مَرَّتَيْنِ مَرَّتَيْنِ فَلَمَّا كَانَ عُثْمَانُ كَثُرَ النَّاسُ فَأَمَرْنَا مُنَادِيًا يُنَادِي عَلَى الزَّوْرَاءِ»

In the lifetime of the Prophet, Abu Bakr and ʿUmar, the Adhan for the Jumua prayer used to be pronounced when the Imam sat on the pulpit. But during the Caliphate of ʿUthman when the Muslims increased in number, a third Adhan at Az-Zaura' was added. Abu ʿAbdullah said, "Az-Zaura' is a place in the market of Medina."  

البخاري:٩١٢حَدَّثَنَا آدَمُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي ذِئْبٍ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنِ السَّائِبِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ قَالَ

كَانَ النِّدَاءُ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ أَوَّلُهُ إِذَا جَلَسَ الإِمَامُ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ عَلَى عَهْدِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَأَبِي بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرَ ؓ فَلَمَّا كَانَ عُثْمَانُ ؓ وَكَثُرَ النَّاسُ زَادَ النِّدَاءَ الثَّالِثَ عَلَى الزَّوْرَاءِ

[Machine] The call to prayer was during the time of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ , Abu Bakr, and Umar, two calls to prayer. Until the time of Uthman, when the number of people increased, he commanded to retain only the first call in Al-Zawra.
