I asked ‘A’ishah whether the Messenger of Allah ﷺ recited a whole Surah (of the Quran) in one Rak’ah of the prayer. She replied : (He recited from among) the Mufassal surahs. I asked: Did he pray (at night) sitting? She replied : (he prayed sitting) when the people made him old. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 956)   

الحاكم:٩٧٦ – حَدَّثَنِي عَلِي بْنُ عِيسَى ثنا مُسَدَّدُ بْنُ قَطَنٍ ثنا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ثنا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ ثنا كَهْمَسُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ شَقِيقٍ قَالَ

سَأَلْتُ عَائِشَةَ هَلْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقْرَأُ السُّورَةَ فِي الرَّكْعَةِ؟ قَالَتْ «مِنَ الْمُفَصَّلِ» قَالَ فَقُلْتُ أَكَانَ يُصَلِّي قَاعِدًا؟ قَالَتْ «حِينَ حَطَمَهُ السِّنُّ»  

«هَذَا حَدِيثٌ صَحِيحٌ عَلَى شَرْطِ الشَّيْخَيْنِ وَلَمْ يُخَرِّجَاهُ بِهَذَا اللَّفْظِ إِنَّمَا أَخْرَجَهُ مُسْلِمٌ مِنْ حَدِيثِ أَيُّوبَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ شَقِيقٍ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ يُصَلِّي لَيْلًا طَوِيلًا قَائِمًا وَلَيْلًا طَوِيلًا قَاعِدًا» على شرطهما
