دَخَلْتُ مَعَ مُعَاوِيَةَ عَلَى أُمِّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ عَائِشَةَ فَقَالَتْ «يَا مُعَاوِيَةُ قَتَلْتَ حُجْرًا وَأَصْحَابَهُ وَفَعَلْتَ الَّذِي فَعَلْتَ» وَذَكَرَ الْحِكَايَةَ بِطُولِهَا
