[Machine] ʿUmar said to Saʿid ibn ʿAmir ibn Hidhyam, “Why do the people of Syria love you?” He replied, “I look after them and I console them.” So he gave him ten thousand, but he returned it and said, “I have servants and horses, and I am well off, and I want my work to be charity for the Muslims.” ʿUmar said, “Do not do that. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave me wealth less than that, and I said something like what you have said. He said to me: ‘If Allah gives you wealth that you did not ask for and you did not set your heart upon, then take it, for it is only Allah’s provision He has given you.’”
