12. Book of Zakāh (2/3)
I had a slave girl and I set her free. When the Prophet ﷺ entered upon me, I informed him (of this). He said : May Allah give reward for it; if you had given her to your maternal uncles, it would have increased your reward (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1690)
The Prophet ﷺ commanded to give sadaqah. A man said: Messenger of Allah, I have a dinar. He said: Spend it on yourself. He again said: I have another. He said: Spend it on your children. He again said: I have another. He said: Spend it on your wife. He again said: I have another. He said: Spend it on your servant. He finally said: I have another. He replied: You know best (what to do with it). (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1691)
It is sufficient sin for a man that he neglects him whom he maintains. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1692)
[Machine] Abu 'Amir Al-'Aqadi and Abu Dawud Al-Tayalisi narrated to us, they said: Shu'bah narrated to us, and Abu al-'Abbas Muhammad ibn Ya'qub narrated to us, they said: Ibrahim ibn Marzuq narrated to us, and Bishr ibn 'Umar and Wahb ibn Jarir narrated to us, they said: Shu'bah narrated to us, from 'Amr ibn Murrah, from 'Abdullah ibn al-Harith, from Abu Kathir, from 'Abdullah ibn 'Amr, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ delivered a sermon and said, "Beware of miserliness, for indeed those who came before you were destroyed because of it. They were commanded to be stingy, so they became stingy. They were commanded to cut off ties, so they cut off ties. And they were commanded to engage in immoral acts, so they engaged in immoral acts."
[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "Every person will remain in the shade of their charity until the judgment is made among the people." Or he said, "until the judgment is passed among the people." Yazid said, and Abu Al-Khair used to say, "A day will not pass without him giving charity, even if it is a small piece of bread or an onion."
[Machine] Indeed, actions compete with one another so that charity says, "I am the best among you."
"The Messenger of Allah said: 'A Dirham was better than a hundred thousand Dirhams.' They said: 'O Messenger of Allah, how?' He said: 'A man had two Dirhams and gave one in charity, and another man went to part of his wealth and took out a hundred thousand Dirhams and gave them in charity."' (Using translation from Nasāʾī 2528)
The Prophet ﷺ said: "There are three whom Allah (SWT) loves: A man who comes to some people and asks (to be given something) for the sake of Allah and not for the sake of their relationship, but they do not give him, so a man stayed behind and gave it to him in secret, and no one knew of his giving except Allah (SWT) and the one to whom he gave it. People who travel all night until sleep becomes dearer to them than anything equated with it, so they lay down their heads (and slept), then a man among them got up and started praying to Me and beseeching Me, reciting My Verses. And a man who was on a campaign and met the enemy and they fled, but he went forward (pursuing them) until he was killed or victory was granted." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 1615)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "A man does not give in charity any amount until seventy devils are detached from it."
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ ordered that every wall of the mosque be adorned with a niche.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ allowed the exchange of 'wasq' (a unit of measure for dates) and 'wasqayn' (two 'wasq' combined) and 'thulatha' (three 'wasq' combined) and 'arba'a' (four 'wasq' combined). He stated, "For every ten 'wasq', a qinu (a container) is to be placed in the mosque for the poor."
She took the oath of allegiance to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said to him: Messenger of Allah, a poor man stands at my door, but I find nothing to give him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to her: If you do not find anything to give him, put something in his hand, even though it should be a burnt hoof. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1667)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "There are two types of jealousy, one that Allah loves and the other that Allah hates, and there are two types of suspicion, one that Allah loves and the other that Allah hates. The type of jealousy that Allah loves is when it is regarding something doubtful, and the type of jealousy that Allah hates is when it is regarding something without doubt. And the type of suspicion that Allah loves is when a person gives in charity, and the type of suspicion that Allah hates is when it comes from arrogance."
[Machine] "From the Prophet ﷺ, he said: Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, said: When My servant sought to borrow from Me, but I did not grant him the loan, and he began to curse Me, while he does not know, I say: 'Dahrahu, dahrahu', and I am the Everlasting."
" Who is this?" They said: "Abu Hurairah." (He said):So I got close to him until I was sitting in front of him as he was narrating to the people. When he was silent and alone, I said to him: " I ask youabsolute truth if you would narrate to me a Hadith which you heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, That you understand and know." So Abu Hurairah said: "You want me to narrate a Hadith to you which the Messenger of Allah ﷺ narrated to me that I understand and know." Then Abu Hurairah began sobbing profusely. We sat for a while, then he recovered and said: "I shall narrate to you a Hadith which the Messenger of Allah ﷺ narrated in this House, while there was no one with us other than he and I." Then, again, Abu Hurairah began sobbing severely. Then he recovered, and wiped his face, and said: "you want me to narrate to you a Hadith which the Messenger of Allah ﷺ narrated while he and I were sitting in this House, and no one was with us but he and I." Then Abu Hurairah began sobbing severely. Then he bent, falling on his face, so I supported him for a long time. Then he recovered and said: "The Messenger of Allah narrated to me that on the Day of Judgement, Allah, Most High, will descend to His slaves t judge between them. Every nation shall be kneeling. The first of those who will be called before him will be a man who memorized the Qur'an, and a man who was killed in Allah's cause, and a wealthy man. Allah will say to the reciter: 'Did I not teach you what I revealed to My Messenger?" He says: 'Of course O Lord!' He says: 'Then what did you do with what you learned?' He said: 'I would stand (in prayer reciting) with it during all hours of the night and all hours of the day.' Then Allah would say to him: 'You have lied.' And the angels will say: 'You have lied.'Allah will say to him: 'Rather, you wanted it to be said that so-and-so is a reciter. And that was said.' The person with the wealth will be brought, and Allah will say to him: 'Was I not so generous with you, such that I did not leave you having any need from anyone?' He will say: 'Of course O Lord!' He says: 'Then what did you do with what I gave to you?' He says: 'I would nurture the ties of kinship and give charity.' Then Allah will say to him: 'You have lied.' And the angels will say to him: 'You have lied.' Allah, Most High, will say: 'Rather, you wanted it to be said that so-and-so is so generous, and that was said.' Then the one who was killed in Allah's cause shall be brought, and Allah will say to him : 'For what were you killed?' So he says: 'I was commanded to fight in Your cause ,so I fought until I was killed.' Allah [Most High] will say to him: 'You have lied.' And the angels will say to him: 'You have lied.' Allah [Most High] will say: 'Rather, you wanted it be said that so-and-so is brave, and that was said.' "Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺhit me on my knees and said: 'O Abu Hurairah! These first three are the creatures of Allah with whom the fire will be enflamed on the Day of Judgement.'" Al-Walid Abu 'Uthman Al-Mada'ini said: "So 'Uqbah bin Muslim informed me that Shaufaiy, is the one who entered upon Mu'awiyah to inform him about this." Abu Uthman said: 'This has been done with these people, then how about with those who remain among the people?" Then Mu'awiyah begin weeping so intensely, that we thought that he will kill himself with excessive weeping. We said: "This man came to us to cause evil." Then Mu'awiyah recovered, wiped off his face and said: "Allah and His Messenger told the truth: Whosoever desires the life of the world and its glitter, then we shall pay in full (the wages of) their deeds therein, and they shall have no diminution therein. They are those for whom there is nothing in the Hereafter Fire, and vain are the deeds they did therein. And of no effect is that which they used to do." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 2382)

[Machine] "And by Allah, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not leave behind at his death a dinar or a dirham, nor a slave nor a female slave, except for his mule and weapons, and a piece of land that he left as charity."

"Sa'd bin 'Ubadah went out with the Prophet on one of his campaigns, and death came to his mother in Al-Madinah. It was said to her (as she was dying): 'Make a will.' She said: 'To whom shall I make a will? The wealth belongs to Sa'd.' Then she died before Sa'd came. When Sa'd came, he was told about that and he said: 'O Messenger of Allah, will it benefit her if I give in charity on her behalf?' The Prophet said: 'Yes.' Sa'd said: 'Such and such a garden is given in charity on her behalf' -regarding a garden that he named." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 3650)
