[Machine] During the Mamluk era, a free person (usually a slave) would be under the authority of their master. "If a child is freed, they are considered to be free because their mother is freed. When the father is freed, the child follows their status."  

الدارمي:٣٢١٤حَدَّثَنَا يَعْلَى عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ قَالَ قَالَ

عُمَرُ فِي الْمَمْلُوكِ يَكُونُ تَحْتَهُ الْحُرَّةُ «يُعْتَقُ الْوَلَدُ بِعِتْقِ أُمِّهِ فَإِذَا عُتِقَ الْأَبُ جَرَّ الْوَلَاءَ»

[Machine] "If a free woman serves under a slave and bears a child for him, then the child is to be freed along with its mother, and their loyalty and guardianship belongs to the mother's freedmen. But if the father is freed, the loyalty is transferred to the freedmen of his father."
