[Machine] Muadh used to pray with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and then go to his people and lead them in prayer. One night, he prayed the 'Isha prayer and recited Surah Al-Baqarah. A man from the Ansar came and prayed behind him, then left. The man heard that Muadh was complaining about him to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, so he asked him about it. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to Muadh, "You are causing a fitna (trial) and a fitna." Then he ordered him to recite two middle Surahs from the Mufassal (the last part of the Qur'an). Abu Muhammad said, "We adhere to this."

Jabir bin ʿAbdullah said, "Muʿadh bin Jabal used to pray with the Prophet ﷺ and then go to lead his people in prayer Once he led the ʿIsha' prayer and recited Surat "Al-Baqara." Somebody left the prayer and Muʿadh criticized him. The news reached the Prophet ﷺ and he said to Muʿadh, 'You are putting the people to trial,' and repeated it thrice (or said something similar) and ordered him to recite two medium Suras of Mufassal." (ʿAmr said that he had forgotten the names of those Suras).
