[Machine] During the time of pre-Islamic ignorance (jahiliyyah), the people used to create something similar to the practices of the Magi regarding menstruating women. When this was mentioned to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, the following verse was revealed: "And they ask you about menstruation. Say, 'It is harm, so keep away from wives during menstruation. And do not approach them until they are pure.' " [Quran 2:222] "So the matter regarding them did not increase except in severity."  

الدارمي:١١٦٧أَخْبَرَنَا خَلِيفَةُ بْنُ خَيَّاطٍ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَهَّابِ حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ قَالَ

كَانَ أَهْلُ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ يَصْنَعُونَ فِي الْحَائِضِ نَحْوًا مِنْ صَنِيعِ الْمَجُوسِ فَذُكِرَ ذَلِكَ لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَنَزَلَتْ {وَيَسْأَلُونَكَ عَنِ الْمَحِيضِ قُلْ هُوَ أَذًى فَاعْتَزِلُوا النِّسَاءَ فِي الْمَحِيضِ وَلَا تَقْرَبُوهُنَّ حَتَّى يَطْهُرْنَ} [البقرة 222] «فَلَمْ يَزْدَدِ الْأَمْرُ فِيهِنَّ إِلَّا شِدَّةً»
