Descent of the angels of Sakinah

bukhari:3614 – Muḥammad b. Bashhār > Ghundar > Shuʿbah > Abū Isḥāq > al-Barāʾ

A man recited Surat al-Kahf ˹in his prayer˺ and in the house there was a ˹riding˺ animal which got spooked. He said taslim (finished his prayer), and a mist or a cloud hovered over him. He informed the Prophet ﷺ of that and he said, "O so-and-so! recite! for this ˹mist or cloud˺ was a sign of Sakinah (peace) descending due to the recitation of Quran."  

البخاري:٣٦١٤ – حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ حَدَّثَنَا غُنْدَرٌ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ

سَمِعْتُ الْبَرَاءَ بْنَ عَازِبٍ ؓ قَرَأَ رَجُلٌ الْكَهْفَ وَفِي الدَّارِ الدَّابَّةُ فَجَعَلَتْ تَنْفِرُ فَسَلَّمَ فَإِذَا ضَبَابَةٌ أَوْ سَحَابَةٌ غَشِيَتْهُ فَذَكَرَهُ لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ اقْرَأْ فُلاَنُ فَإِنَّهَا السَّكِينَةُ نَزَلَتْ لِلْقُرْآنِ أَوْ تَنَزَّلَتْ لِلْقُرْآنِ

I heard al-Bara' as saying that a man recited al-Kahf when an animal was there in the house and it began to take fright. And as he looked around, he found a cloud overshadowing it. He mentioned that to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Upon this he said: O so and so, recite on (the surah) as- Sakina descends at the (recitation of the Qur'an) or on account (of the recitation) of the Qur'an.  

مسلم:٧٩٥b – وَحَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ الْمُثَنَّى وَابْنُ بَشَّارٍ وَاللَّفْظُ لاِبْنِ الْمُثَنَّى قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ قَالَ

ibnhibban:769 – ʿAbdullāh b. Muḥammad al-Azdī > Isḥāq b. Ibrāhīm > al-Naḍr b. Shumayl > Shuʿbah > Abū Isḥāq > al-Barāʾ

[Machine] "I heard Al-Bara'ah saying that there was a man who used to recite Surat Al-Kahf and his horse was tied up, and it became restless and started to move around, appearing like a mist or cloud that had surrounded him. So he came to the Prophet ﷺ and mentioned this to him, and the Prophet ﷺ said, 'Recite, O so and so, for that is tranquility that descended due to the recitation of the Quran.'"  

ابن حبّان:٧٦٩ – أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْأَزْدِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ أَخْبَرَنَا النَّضْرُ بْنُ شُمَيْلٍ أَخْبَرَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ قَالَ

سَمِعْتُ الْبَرَاءَ يَقُولُ إِنَّ رَجُلًا كَانَ يَقْرَأُ سُورَةَ الْكَهْفِ وَدَابَّتُهُ مُوثَقَةٌ فَجَعَلَتْ تَنْفِرُ تَرَى مِثْلَ الضَّبَابَةِ أَوِ الْغَمَامَةِ قَدْ غَشِيَتْهُ فَأَتَى النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَذَكَرَ ذَلِكَ لَهُ فَقَالَ «اقْرَأْ يَا فُلَانُ تِلْكَ السَّكِينَةُ أُنْزِلَتْ عِنْدَ الْقُرْآنِ أَوْ لِلْقُرْآنِ»
