Ibn Masud on Jibril’s six hundred wings
I asked Zirr b. Hubaysh about the saying of Allah ﷻ: "Then he was at a distance of two bow-lengths or nearer, and He revealed to His servant what He revealed." He said: Ibn Masud narrated to us that he saw Jibril; he had six hundred wings.
سَأَلْتُ زِرَّ بْنَ حُبَيْشٍ عَنْ قَوْلِ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى: ﴿فَكَانَ قَابَ قَوْسَيْنِ أَوْ أَدْنَى * فَأَوْحَى إِلَى عَبْدِهِ مَا أَوْحَى﴾، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ مَسْعُودٍ أَنَّهُ رَأَى جِبْرِيلَ، لَهُ سِتُّمِائَةِ جَنَاحٍ.
