How to Pray Eid Salah

Eid prayer is two rakahs. There is no adhan and no iqamah for it. The imam leads the prayer first, then gives the khutbah after the prayer. If you are praying behind an imam, follow the imam's takbirs even if they differ from the school you normally follow.

Hanafi (3+3 extra)

• First rakah:
  • Make the opening takbir and recite the thana
  • Make three extra takbirs before al-Fatihah
• Second rakah:
  • Make three extra takbirs before making ruku
• Raise the hands when making extra takbirs

Maliki (6+5 extra)

• First rakah:
  • Make the opening takbir
  • Make six extra takbirs before al-Fatihah
• Second rakah:
  • Make five extra takbirs before al-Fatihah
• Do not raise hands for extra takbirs according to a well-known practice

Shafii (7+5 extra)

• First rakah:
  • Make the opening takbir
  • Make seven extra takbirs before al-Fatihah
• Second rakah:
  • Make five extra takbirs before al-Fatihah
• Raise hands for the extra takbirs

Hanbali (6+5 extra)

• First rakah:
  • Make the opening takbir
  • Make six extra takbirs before al-Fatihah
• Second rakah:
  • Make five extra takbirs before al-Fatihah
• Raise the hands for the extra takbirs.

Takbirat of Eid

• اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ، اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ، اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ،
  لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ،
  وَاللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ، اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ، وَلِلَّهِ الْحَمْدُ. (٣)

allāhu akbar, allāhu akbar, allāhu akbar,
lā ilāha illā allāh,
wallāhu akbar, allāhu akbar, wa-li-llāhi al-ḥamd. (3)
Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest. There is no god except Allah. Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, and to Allah belongs all praise.

• اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ كَبِيرًا، وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ كَثِيرًا،
  وَسُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ بُكْرَةً وَأَصِيلًا.

allāhu akbaru kabīrā, wal-ḥamdu li-llāhi kathīrā,
wa-subḥāna allāhi bukratan wa-aṣīlā.
Allah is the Greatest, exceedingly Great. Praise belongs to Allah abundantly. Exaltation to Allah morning and evening.

• لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ، صَدَقَ وَعْدَهُ، وَنَصَرَ عَبْدَهُ،
  وَأَعَزَّ جُنْدَهُ، وَهَزَمَ الْأَحْزَابَ وَحْدَهُ.

lā ilāha illā allāhu waḥdah, ṣadaqa waʿdah, wa-naṣara ʿabdah,
wa-aʿazza jundahu, wa-hazama al-aḥzāba waḥdah.
There is no god except Allah alone. He fulfilled His promise, granted victory to His servant, strengthened His army, and defeated the confederates alone.

• لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ، وَلَا نَعْبُدُ إِلَّا إِيَّاهُ،
  مُخْلِصِينَ لَهُ الدِّينَ، وَلَوْ كَرِهَ الْكَافِرُونَ.

lā ilāha illā allāh, wa-lā naʿbudu illā iyyāh,
mukhliṣīna lahu al-dīn, wa-law kariha al-kāfirūn.
There is no god except Allah, and we worship none but Him, sincerely to Him in religion, even if the disbelievers despise it.

• اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَىٰ سَيِّدِنَا مُحَمَّدٍ، وَعَلَىٰ آلِ سَيِّدِنَا مُحَمَّدٍ،
  وَعَلَىٰ أَصْحَابِ سَيِّدِنَا مُحَمَّدٍ، وَعَلَىٰ أَنْصَارِ سَيِّدِنَا مُحَمَّدٍ،
  وَعَلَىٰ أَزْوَاجِ سَيِّدِنَا مُحَمَّدٍ، وَعَلَىٰ ذُرِّيَّةِ سَيِّدِنَا مُحَمَّدٍ،
  وَسَلِّمْ تَسْلِيمًا كَثِيرًا.

allāhumma ṣalli ʿalā sayyidinā muḥammad, wa-ʿalā āli sayyidinā muḥammad,
wa-ʿalā aṣḥābi sayyidinā muḥammad, wa-ʿalā anṣāri sayyidinā muḥammad,
wa-ʿalā azwāji sayyidinā muḥammad, wa-ʿalā dhurriyyati sayyidinā muḥammad,
wa-sallim taslīman kathīrā.
O Allah, send blessings upon our master Muhammad, and upon the family of our master Muhammad, upon the Companions of our master Muhammad, and upon the helpers of our master Muhammad, and upon the wives of our master Muhammad, and upon the family and descendants of our master Muhammad, and grant them abundant peace.
