Not raising hands in dua during the Friday khutbah except for rain prayer

bayhaqi:5776Abū ʿAlī al-Rūdhbārī > Muḥammad b. Bakr > Abū Dāwud > Musaddad > Bishr b. al-Mufaḍḍal > ʿAbd al-Raḥman / Ibn Isḥāq > ʿAbd al-Raḥman b. Muʿāwiyah > Ibn Abū Dhubāb > Sahl b. Saʿd

“I never saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ever raising his hands, making dua upon his pulpit or elsewhere; rather, I saw him say: ‘Like this,’ and he gestured with the forefinger, and joined the middle finger with the thumb.

˹Bayhaqi said:˺ The intent of the two hadiths (5775, 5776) is to affirm that dua is made in the sermon; and in them is the Sunnah that he should not raise his hands while supplicating in the sermon, but should suffice with pointing with his finger.

It is also authentically reported from Anas b. Malik, from the Prophet ﷺ, that he extended his hands and make dua and that was when he prayed for rain during the Friday sermon. Thus we narrated from Anas ibn Malik, from the Prophet ﷺ, that “he would not raise his hands in any of his duas except in praying for rain, until the whiteness of his armpits could be seen.”

And we narrated from Zuhri that he said: “When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ delivered the sermon on Friday, he would make dua and point with his finger, and the people would say Amin.” Qurrat b. Abd al-Rahman narrated it from Zuhri, from Abu Salamah, from Abu Hurayrah, as a connected report, but it is not authentic, and Allah knows best.”
