[Machine] It has been narrated that the Prophet ﷺ came to Ali ibn Abi Talib while he was leaving for the Fajr prayer. Ali was saying, "O Allah, forgive me! O Allah, have mercy on me! O Allah, accept my repentance!" The Prophet ﷺ struck Ali on his shoulder and said, "Oh Ali, broaden your supplication. Indeed, the difference between general and specific is like the difference between the heavens and the earth."  

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ أَتَى عَلَى عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ ؓ وَقَدْ خَرَجَ لِصَلَاةِ الْفَجْرِ وَعَلِيٌّ يَقُولُ اللهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي اللهُمَّ ارْحَمْنِي اللهُمَّ تُبْ عَلَيَّ فَضَرَبَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ عَلَى مَنْكِبِهِ وَقَالَ أَعْمِمْ فَفَضْلُ مَا بَيْنَ الْعُمُومِ وَالْخُصُوصِ كَمَا بَيْنَ السَّمَاءِ وَالْأَرْضِ
