[Machine] He heard from Abu Ayoub, the companion of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , saying, "Performing Witr is an obligation. Whoever wishes to perform Witr with five rak'ahs, let him do so. Whoever wishes to perform Witr with three rak'ahs, let him do so. Whoever wishes to perform Witr with one rak'ah, let him do so. And whoever is only able to nod his head [in prayer], let him do so." Among them was Mu'adh ibn Al-Harith Abu Halimah Al-Qari, who witnessed the Battle of Al-Jisr with Abu Ubaid Al-Thaqafi during the caliphate of Umar ibn Al-Khattab. It has been said that he was a companion.  

البيهقي:٤٧٩٥أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الْقَاضِي ثنا أَبُو سَهْلِ بْنُ زِيَادٍ الْقَطَّانُ ثنا أَبُو يَحْيَى عَبْدُ الْكَرِيمِ بْنُ الْهَيْثَمِ ثنا أَبُو الْيَمَانِ أَخْبَرَنِي شُعَيْبُ بْنُ أَبِي حَمْزَةَ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ثنا عَطَاءُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ اللَّيْثِيُّ ثُمَّ الْجُنْدَعِيُّ

أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا أَيُّوبَ صَاحِبَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ الْوِتْرُ حَقٌّ فَمَنْ أَحَبَّ أَنْ يُوتِرَ بِخَمْسٍ فَلْيَفْعَلْ وَمَنْ أَحَبَّ أَنْ يُوتِرَ بِثَلَاثٍ فَلْيَفْعَلْ وَمَنْ أَحَبَّ أَنْ يُوتِرَ بِوَاحِدَةٍ فَلْيَفْعَلْ وَمَنْ لَمْ يَسْتَطِعْ إِلَّا أَنْ يَوْمِئَ بِرَأْسِهِ فَلْيَفْعَلْ وَمِنْهُمْ مُعَاذُ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ أَبُو حَلِيمَةَ الْقَارِيُّ ؓ شَهِدَ الْجِسْرَ مَعَ أَبِي عُبَيْدٍ الثَّقَفِيِّ فِي خِلَافَةِ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ ؓ وَقَدْ قِيلَ لَهُ صُحْبَةٌ
