[Machine] Abu Ayyub al-Ansari, on whom the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stayed, prayed with Abu Bakr after sunset and before the prayer. Then he did not pray with Umar, but he prayed with Uthman. This was mentioned to him, so he said, "I prayed with the Prophet ﷺ , then I prayed with Abu Bakr and left Umar without praying with him, and I prayed with Uthman. He is gentle, and Umar does not see them, so Abu Ayyub did not pray with them, and he prayed with Uthman." And this is the meaning of what was narrated from Suwayd Ibn Ghafalah that he said, "We introduced it during the caliphate of Uthman, after they left it during the time of Umar. And Allah knows best."  

البيهقي:٤٥٠٤أنبأ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ وَأَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ السُّلَمِيُّ قَالَا ثنا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ الصَّغَانِيُّ ثنا ابْنُ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ أنبأ يَحْيَى بْنُ أَيُّوبَ حَدَّثَنِي ابْنُ طَاوُسٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ

أَنَّ أَبَا أَيُّوبَ الْأَنْصَارِيَّ الَّذِي نَزَلَ عَلَيْهِ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ صَلَّى مَعَ أَبِي بَكْرٍ بَعْدَ غُرُوبِ الشَّمْسِ قَبْلَ الصَّلَاةِ ثُمَّ لَمْ يَكُنْ يُصَلِّي مَعَ عُمَرَ ؓ ثُمَّ صَلَّى مَعَ عُثْمَانَ ؓ فَذُكِرَ ذَلِكَ لَهُ فَقَالَ إِنِّي صَلَّيْتُ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ ثُمَّ صَلَّيْتُ مَعَ أَبِي بَكْرٍ وَفَرِقْتُ مِنْ عُمَرَ فَلَمْ أُصَلِّ مَعَهُ وَصَلَّيْتُ مَعَ عُثْمَانَ ؓ؛ إِنَّهُ لَيِّنٌ وَكَانَ عُمَرُ ؓ لَا يَرَاهُمَا فَلَمْ يُصَلِّهِمَا أَبُو أَيُّوبَ مَعَهُ وَصَلَّاهُمَا مَعَ عُثْمَانَ ؓ وَهَذَا مَعْنَى مَا رُوِيَ عَنْ سُوَيْدِ بْنِ غَفَلَةَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ ابْتَدَعْنَاهَا فِي خِلَافَةِ عُثْمَانَ يَعْنِي بَعْدَمَا تَرَكُوهَا فِي عَهْدِ عُمَرَ وَاللهُ أَعْلَمُ
