[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Indeed, with every call to prayer, there are two rak'as except for Maghrib." Abu Abdullah Al-Hafiz informed me that Muhammad bin Ismail narrated to us, Abu Bakr Muhammad bin Ishaq said, meaning Ibn Khuzaymah, following the trace of this hadith, Hayyan bin 'Ubaidullah said, "He made a mistake in the chain of narration; because Khamis bin Al-Hasan, Saeed bin Iyas Al-Jurairi, and Abd al-Mumin Al-Ataki narrated the news from Ibn Buraydah from Abdullah bin Mughaffal (excluding his father). This is my knowledge from the kind that Al-Shafi'i, may Allah have mercy on him, used to say, he took the path of Maghrib. When this sheikh saw the news of Ibn Buraydah from his father, he assumed that this news was also from his father. Perhaps when he saw the majority not praying before Maghrib, he assumed that it is not permissible to pray before Maghrib. So he added this word to the news and increased in knowledge that this narration is incorrect. Ibn Al-Mubarak said in his hadith from Khamis, it is as if Ibn Buraydah used to pray two rak'as before Maghrib. If Ibn Buraydah had heard from his father about the Prophet's ﷺ exception, which Hayyan bin 'Ubaidullah mentioned in the narration, that no prayer was performed before Maghrib, then there would be no contradiction with the narration of the Prophet ﷺ .
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِنَّ عِنْدَ كُلِّ أَذَانَيْنِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ مَا خَلَا الْمَغْرِبَ 4492 وَأنبأ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ أَخْبَرَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ثنا أَبُو بَكْرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ يَعْنِي ابْنَ خُزَيْمَةَ عَلَى أَثَرِ هَذَا الْحَدِيثِ قَالَ حَيَّانُ بْنُ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ هَذَا قَدْ أَخْطَأَ فِي الْإِسْنَادِ؛ لِأَنَّ كَهْمَسَ بْنَ الْحَسَنِ وَسَعِيدَ بْنَ إِيَاسٍ الْجُرَيْرِيَّ وَعَبْدَ الْمُؤْمِنِ الْعَتَكِيَّ رَوَوَا الْخَبَرَ عَنِ ابْنِ بُرَيْدَةَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ مُغَفَّلٍ لَا عَنْ أَبِيهِ هَذَا عِلْمِي مِنَ الْجِنْسِ الَّذِي كَانَ الشَّافِعِيُّ رَحِمَهُ اللهُ يَقُولُ أَخَذَ طَرِيقَ الْمَجَرَّةِ فَهَذَا الشَّيْخُ لَمَّا رَأَى أَخْبَارَ ابْنِ بُرَيْدَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ تَوَهَّمَ أَنَّ هَذَا الْخَبَرَ هُوَ أَيْضًا عَنْ أَبِيهِ وَلَعَلَّهُ لَمَّا رَأَى الْعَامَّةَ لَا تُصَلِّي قَبْلَ الْمَغْرِبِ تَوَهَّمَ أَنَّهُ لَا يُصَلَّى قَبْلَ الْمَغْرِبِ فَزَادَ هَذِهِ الْكَلِمَةَ فِي الْخَبَرِ وَزَادَ عِلْمًا بِأَنَّ هَذِهِ الرِّوَايَةَ خَطَأٌ أَنَّ ابْنَ الْمُبَارَكِ قَالَ فِي حَدِيثِهِ عَنْ كَهْمَسٍ فَكَأَنَّ ابْنَ بُرَيْدَةَ يُصَلِّي قَبْلَ الْمَغْرِبِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ فَلَوْ كَانَ ابْنُ بُرَيْدَةَ قَدْ سَمِعَ مِنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ هَذَا الِاسْتِثْنَاءَ الَّذِي زَادَ حَيَّانُ بْنُ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ فِي الْخَبَرِ مَا خَلَا صَلَاةَ الْمَغْرِبِ لَمْ يَكُنْ يُخَالِفُ خَبَرَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ
