[Machine] I performed salah (prayer) with Abu Huraira during nighttime. He recited the verse "When the sky splits apart and becomes rose-colored like oil" and prostrated. I asked him, "What is this prostration?" He replied, "I prostrated in this manner with Abu Al-Qasim (Prophet Muhammad ﷺ ) and I will continue to do so until I meet him." Issa bin Yunus mentioned that after the Isha prayer, when Abu Huraira left, he asked him, "O Abu Huraira, or I said, 'What is this?'" He replied, "This is how he (Prophet Muhammad ﷺ ) prostrated, so I followed his example."  

البيهقي:٣٧٥٨ – أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَمْرٍو الْأَدِيبُ أنبأ أَبُو بَكْرٍ الْإِسْمَاعِيلِيُّ أَخْبَرَنِي الْحَسَنُ بْنُ الطَّيِّبِ الْبَلْخِيُّ ثنا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُعَاذٍ الْعَنْبَرِيُّ ثنا مُعْتَمِرُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ التَّيْمِيُّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو يَعْلَى ثنا عَمْرٌو النَّاقِدُ ثنا عِيسَى بْنُ يُونُسَ بْنِ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ السَّبِيعِيُّ ثنا سُلَيْمَانُ التَّيْمِيُّ عَنْ بَكْرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْمُزَنِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي رَافِعٍ قَالَ

صَلَّيْتُ مَعَ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ؓ الْعَتَمَةَ فَقَرَأَ إِذَا السَّمَاءُ انْشَقَّتْ فَسَجَدَ فَقُلْتُ لَهُ مَا هَذِهِ السَّجْدَةُ؟ فَقَالَ سَجَدْتُ بِهَا مَعَ أَبِي الْقَاسِمِ ﷺ فَلَا أَزَالُ أَسْجُدُ بِهَا حَتَّى أَلْقَاهُ قَالَ عِيسَى بْنُ يُونُسَ الْعِشَاءَ وَقَالَ فَلَمَّا انْصَرَفَ قَالَ يَا أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ أَوْ قُلْتُ مَا هَذِهِ؟ قَالَ كَذَا سَجَدَ بِهِ فَذَكَرَهُ  

رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ فِي الصَّحِيحِ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ بْنِ مُعَاذٍ عَنْ عَمْرٍو النَّاقِدِ وَأَخْرَجَهُ الْبُخَارِيُّ كَمَا تَقَدَّمَ

I said the night prayer along with Abu Huraira and -as he recited:" When the heaven burst asunder," he performed prostration. Isaid to him: What prostration is this? He said: I prostrated myself (on this occasion of recital) behind Abu'I-Qasim (Muhammad. may peace be upon him), and Iwould go on doing this till I meet him (in the next world). Ibn 'Abu al-A'la said: (Abu Huraira uttered this: ) I would not abandon performing prostration.  

مسلم:٥٧٨f – وَحَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُعَاذٍ وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الأَعْلَى قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا الْمُعْتَمِرُ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ بَكْرٍ عَنْ أَبِي رَافِعٍ قَالَ

صَلَّيْتُ مَعَ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ صَلاَةَ الْعَتَمَةِ فَقَرَأَ { إِذَا السَّمَاءُ انْشَقَّتْ} فَسَجَدَ فِيهَا فَقُلْتُ لَهُ مَا هَذِهِ السَّجْدَةُ فَقَالَ سَجَدْتُ بِهَا خَلْفَ أَبِي الْقَاسِمِ ﷺ فَلاَ أَزَالُ أَسْجُدُ بِهَا حَتَّى أَلْقَاهُ وَقَالَ ابْنُ عَبْدِ الأَعْلَى فَلاَ أَزَالُ أَسْجُدُهَا

I offered the night prayer behind Abu Hurairah. He recited Surah Inshiqaq ("When the sky is rent asunder") and prostrated himself. I asked him: What is this prostration ? He replied: I prostrated myself on account of this (surah) behind Abu al-Qasim (i.e. the Prophet). I shall continue prostrating on account of this till I meet him. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1408)
