bayhaqi:2535ʿĀṣim b. Kulayb from his father > ʿAlī > Kān

[Machine] He used to raise his hands in the first Takbeer of prayer, then he would not raise them in anything from it. Muhammad ibn Abdullah al-Hafiz informed us, Abu al-Hasan al-Anbari narrated to us, Uthman ibn Sa'id al-Darimi narrated to us, Ahmad ibn Yunus narrated to us, Abu Bakr al-Nahshalii mentioned it. Uthman al-Darimi said, "This has been narrated through this weak chain from Ali, and it has also been narrated by Abdur Rahman ibn Hurmuz al-A'raj from Ubaydullah ibn Abi Rafi from Ali, that he saw the Prophet ﷺ raising them both during the prostration and after raising his head from the prostration. It is not Ali's opinion that he chose to act differently from what the Prophet ﷺ did, but Abu Bakr al-Nahshalii is not someone whose narration can be relied upon or whose narration establishes a sunnah that others did not bring." Al-Za'farani said, "Al-Shafi'i said in the old book, and it is not established from Ali or Ibn Mas'ud, meaning what they have narrated from them that they did not raise their hands in anything from the prayer except in the opening Takbeer." Al-Shafi'i, may Allah have mercy on him, said, "And indeed, it is only established."
