bayhaqi:2410Abū Zakariyyā b. Abū Isḥāq > Abū al-ʿAbbās Muḥammad b. Yaʿqūb > al-Rabīʿ b. Sulaymān > al-Shāfiʿī > Ibrāhīm b. Muḥammad > ʿAbdullāh b. ʿUthmān b. Khuthaym > Ismāʿīl b. ʿUbayd b. Rifāʿah from his father > Muʿāwiyah

[Machine] That Muawiyah had arrived in the city and prayed with them without saying "In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful" and without raising his voice during the takbir when he lowered and raised his hands. The migrants and the supporters then called out to him, saying, "Muawiyah, have you stolen your prayer? Where is 'In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful'? And where is the takbir when you lower and raise your hands?" So he prayed another prayer with them and said, "In that prayer is what they criticized me for." And with his chain of narration, Ash-Shafi'i reported that Yahya ibn Sulaym informed him, from Abdullah ibn Uthman ibn Khuthaym, from Ismail ibn Ubaid ibn Rifa'ah, from his father, from Muawiyah, the migrants, and the supporters, something similar to that or with the same meaning. Ash-Shafi'i said, "May Allah have mercy on him, and I think this chain of narration is more reliable than the first one." Sheikhs, may Allah have mercy on them, also narrated it. Ismail ibn Ayash narrated it from Ibn Khuthaym, from Ismail ibn Ubaid ibn Rifa'ah, from his father, from his grandfather, that Muawiyah had arrived in the city. It is possible that Ibn Khuthaym heard it from both of them, and Allah knows best.
