[Machine] I said to him, "Do you mean that the gifts of the scribes will die, while he has free children who will continue to issue more than what remains of his writing?" He said, "He will spend what remains of his writing, and whatever is left will be for his children as a favor." So I said, "Have you heard this from someone?" He said, "It is claimed that Ali ibn Abi Talib used to do this."  

قُلْتُ لَهُ يَعْنِي لِعَطَاءٍ الْمُكَاتَبُ يَمُوتُ وَلَهُ وَلَدٌ أَحْرَارٌ وَيَدَعُ أَكْثَرَ مِمَّا بَقِيَ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ كِتَابَتِهِ؟ قَالَ يَقْضِي عَنْهُ مَا بَقِيَ مِنْ كِتَابَتِهِ وَمَا كَانَ مِنْ فَضْلٍ فَلِبَنِيهِ فَقُلْتُ أَبَلَغَكَ هَذَا عَنْ أَحَدٍ؟ قَالَ زَعَمُوا أَنَّ عَلِيَّ بْنَ أَبِي طَالِبٍ ؓ كَانَ يَقْضِي بِهِ
