[Machine] The Messenger of Allah (may ﷺ ) appointed 'Amr ibn al-As to a military expedition in which Abu Bakr and 'Umar were with him. When they reached the place of battle, 'Amr commanded them not to light a fire. 'Umar became angry and intended to confront him, but Abu Bakr prevented him and informed him that the Messenger of Allah (may ﷺ ) had not chosen him out of his own accord, but had appointed him due to his knowledge of warfare. 'Umar calmed down after hearing this.  

البيهقي:١٧٩٠٠حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ إِمْلَاءً وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الْقَاضِي قَالَا ثنا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ أنبأ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْجَبَّارِ ثنا يُونُسُ بْنُ بُكَيْرٍ عَنِ الْمُنْذِرِ بْنِ ثَعْلَبَةَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ ؓ قَالَ بَعَثَ

رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عَمْرَو بْنَ الْعَاصِ فِي سَرِيَّةٍ فِيهِمْ أَبُو بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرُ ؓ فَلَمَّا انْتَهَوْا إِلَى مَكَانِ الْحَرْبِ أَمَرَهُمْ عَمْرٌو أَنْ لَا يُنَوِّرُوا نَارًا فَغَضِبَ عُمَرُ وَهَمَّ أَنْ يَأْتِيَهُ فَنَهَاهُ أَبُو بَكْرٍ وَأَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّهُ لَمْ يَسْتَعْمِلْهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عَلَيْكَ إِلَّا لِعِلْمِهِ بِالْحَرْبِ فَهَدَأَ عَنْهُ عُمَرُ ؓ

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent 'Amr ibn al-'As in the Battle of Dhat al-Salasil, and with him were Abu Bakr and 'Umar. When they reached the location of the battle, 'Amr ordered them not to light a fire. 'Umar became angry and wanted to harm him, but Abu Bakr stopped him and informed him that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ never used 'Amr against him except for his knowledge of war. So 'Umar calmed down.

«بَعَثَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَمْرَو بْنَ الْعَاصِ فِي غَزْوَةِ ذَاتِ السَّلَاسِلِ وَفِيهِمْ أَبُو بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرُ فَلَمَّا انْتَهَوْا إِلَى مَكَانِ الْحَرْبِ أَمَرَهُمْ عَمْرٌو أَنْ لَا يُنَوِّرُوا نَارًا فَغَضِبَ عُمَرُ وَهَمَّ أَنْ يَنَالَ مِنْهُ فَنَهَاهُ أَبُو بَكْرٍ وَأَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّهُ لَمْ يَسْتَعْمِلْهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَلَيْكَ إِلَّا لِعِلْمِهِ بِالْحَرْبِ فَهَدَأَ عَنْهُ عُمَرُ
