[Machine] The prayer was initially prescribed for the Prophet ﷺ as two units of prayer in Makkah. Then, when he migrated to Madinah, it was prescribed as four units of prayer, and the prayer of travel was established as two units of prayer.
فُرِضَتِ الصَّلَاةُ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ بِمَكَّةَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ فَلَمَّا خَرَجَ إِلَى الْمَدِينَةِ فُرِضَتْ أَرْبَعًا وَأُقِرَّتْ صَلَاةُ السَّفَرِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ
