[Machine] "How are you this morning, daughter of Hanthala?" So I said, "I am well, may God make you well." He said, "I am the one who knew my relationship to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and my relationship to Ali ibn Abi Talib. Also my rights in Islam and my honor among the Arabs." So I said, "May God forgive you, O Abu Ja'far. You are a man from whom I hear and who is spoken of, and you propose to me during my waiting period?" He said, "What have we done? I only informed you of my status with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ." Then he said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered upon Umm Salamah bint Abi Umayyah ibn Al-Mughirah Al-Makhzumiyyah and became intimate with Abu Salamah ibn Abd al-Asad, her cousin. He did not stop reminding her of his status from Allah the Almighty until the mat left marks on his hand from the intensity of his reliance upon it. So that was not a proposal."  

كَيْفَ أَصْبَحْتِ يَا بِنْتَ حَنْظَلَةَ؟ فَقُلْتُ بِخَيْرٍ وَجَعَلَكَ اللهُ بِخَيْرٍ فَقَالَ أَنَا مَنْ قَدْ عَلِمْتِ قَرَابَتِي مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَقَرَابَتِي مِنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ ؓ وَحَقِّي فِي الْإِسْلَامِ وَشَرَفِي فِي الْعَرَبِ قَالَتْ فَقُلْتُ غَفَرَ اللهُ لَكَ يَا أَبَا جَعْفَرٍ أَنْتَ رَجُلٌ يُؤْخَذُ مِنْكَ وَيُرْوَى عَنْكَ تَخْطُبُنِي فِي عِدَّتِي؟ فَقَالَ مَا فَعَلْنَا إِنَّمَا أَخْبَرْتُكِ بِمَنْزِلَتِي مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ ثُمَّ قَالَ دَخَلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عَلَى أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ بِنْتِ أَبِي أُمَيَّةَ بْنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ الْمَخْزُومِيَّةِ وَتَأَيَّمَتْ مِنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْأَسَدِ وَهُوَ ابْنُ عَمِّهَا فَلَمْ يَزَلْ يُذَكِّرُهَا بِمَنْزِلَتِهِ مِنَ اللهِ تَعَالَى حَتَّى أَثَّرَ الْحَصِيرُ فِي كَفِّهِ مِنْ شِدَّةِ مَا كَانَ يَعْتَمِدُ عَلَيْهِ فَمَا كَانَتْ تِلْكَ خِطْبَةً
