ahmad:5951 – Hāshim b. al-Qāsim > Shuʿbah > Abū Bakr b. Ḥafṣ > Sālim b. ʿAbdullāh from his father

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ sent to Umar a garment made of silk or brocade or something similar. Umar saw it and said, "I was not sent to you to wear such a thing. It is only for those who have no character. I was only sent to you to benefit from it."  

أحمد:٥٩٥١ – حَدَّثَنَا هَاشِمُ بْنُ الْقَاسِمِ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ حَفْصٍ عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ بَعَثَ إِلَى عُمَرَ بِحُلَّةٍ مِنْ حَرِيرٍ أَوْ سِيَرَاءَ أَوْ نَحْوِ هَذَا فَرَآهَا عَلَيْهِ فَقَالَ إِنِّي لَمْ أُرْسِلْ بِهَا إِلَيْكَ لِتَلْبَسَهَا إِنَّمَا هِيَ ثِيَابُ مَنْ لَا خَلَاقَ لَهُ إِنَّمَا بَعَثْتُ بِهَا إِلَيْكَ لِتَسْتَنْفِعَ بِهَا

Once the Prophet ﷺ sent to ʿUmar a silken two-piece garment, and when he saw ʿUmar wearing it, he said to him, "I have not sent it to you to wear. It is worn by him who has no share in the Hereafter, and I have sent it to you so that you could benefit by it (i.e. sell it).  

البخاري:٢١٠٤ – حَدَّثَنَا آدَمُ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ حَفْصٍ عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ

أَرْسَلَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ إِلَى عُمَرَ ؓ بِحُلَّةِ حَرِيرٍ أَوْ سِيرَاءَ فَرَآهَا عَلَيْهِ فَقَالَ إِنِّي لَمْ أُرْسِلْ بِهَا إِلَيْكَ لِتَلْبَسَهَا إِنَّمَا يَلْبَسُهَا مَنْ لاَ خَلاَقَ لَهُ إِنَّمَا بَعَثْتُ إِلَيْكَ لِتَسْتَمْتِعَ بِهَا يَعْنِي تَبِيعُهَا  

ahmad:12605 – ʿĀrim > Abū ʿAwānah And Hishām b. Saʿīd > Abū ʿAwānah > ʿAbd al-Raḥman b. al-Aṣam > Anas b. Mālik

You sent it to me whereas you said what you had to, say (i. e. it is forbidden for men). Thereupon he (the Holy Prophet) said: I did not send it to you so that you might wear it, but I sent it to you so that you might derive benefit from its price. (Using translation from Muslim 2072)

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ بَعَثَ إِلَى عُمَرَ بْنِالْخَطَّابِ بِجُبَّةِ سُنْدُسٍ فَقَالَ عُمَرُ أَتَبْعَثُ بِهَا إِلَيَّ وَقَدْ قُلْتَ فِيهَا مَا قُلْتَ قَالَ إِنِّي لَمْ أَبْعَثْ بِهَا إِلَيْكَ لِتَلْبَسَهَا إِنَّمَا بَعَثْتُ بِهَا إِلَيْكَ لِتَبِيعَهَا وَتسْتَنْفِعَ بِثَمَنِهَا
