I wish that I had asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ what would save us from what the Shaitan whispers into our hearts. Abu Bakr said: I asked him about that and he said: ʿWhat can save you from that is to say what I told my uncle to say but he did not say it.ʿ  

أحمد:٣٧حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَعِيدٍ مَوْلَى بَنِي هَاشِمٍ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ وَسَعِيدُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ أَبِي الْحُسَامِ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ أَبِي عَمْرٍو عَنْ أَبِي الْحُوَيْرِثِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرِ بْنِ مُطْعِمٍأَنَّ عُثْمَانَ قَالَ تَمَنَّيْتُ

أَنْ أَكُونَ سَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ مَاذَا يُنْجِينَا مِمَّا يُلْقِي الشَّيْطَانُ فِي أَنْفُسِنَا؟ فَقَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ قَدْ سَأَلْتُهُ عَنْ ذَلِكَ فَقَالَ يُنْجِيكُمْ مِنْ ذَلِكَ أَنْ تَقُولُوا مَا أَمَرْتُ بِهِ عَمِّي أَنْ يَقُولَهُ فلمْ يَقُلْهُ

"عَنْ عثمَان قَال: تَمَنَّيْتُ أَنْ أَكُونَ سَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ الله ﷺ مَاذا يُنْجِينَا مِمَّا يُلقِى الشَّيْطَانُ فِى أَنْفُسِنَا؟ فَقَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ: قَدْ سَأَلْتُهُ عَنْ ذَلِكَ فَقَالَ: يُنْجِيكُمْ مِنْ ذَلِكَ أَنْ تَقُولُوا مَا أَمَرْتُ بِهِ عَمِّى عِنْدَ الْمَوْتِ أَنْ يَقُولَهُ، وَلَمْ يَقُلْهُ".
