[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ arrived in Medina and it was mentioned that fever had affected them. Abu Bakr fell ill and whenever he was affected by fever, he would say, "Every person is awakening among his family, and death is closer than the straps of his sandals." Bilal, when afflicted with fever, would say, "Oh, would that my hair were made into a pillow for me to spend a night in a valley with abundant water, and would there be a wound that appears on me and heals!" O Allah, curse Utabah bin Rabee'ah, Shaybah bin Rabee'ah, and Umayyah bin Khalf as they expelled us from Makkah. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw what they went through, he said, "O Allah, make us love Medina as much as we love Makkah, or even more. O Allah, bless us in its measuring utensil (i.e., food), its length, and extend its boundaries. And transfer its fever to Ju'fah." Consequently, newborns began to be born in Ju'fah and they would not experience sleep until fever afflicted them.

When Messenger of Allah ﷺ reached Medina, Abu Bakr and Bilal became ill. When Abu Bakr's fever got worse, he would recite (this poetic verse): "Everybody is staying alive with his People, yet Death is nearer to him than His shoe laces." And Bilal, when his fever deserted him, would recite: "Would that I could stay overnight in A valley wherein I would be Surrounded by Idhkhir and Jalil (kinds of goodsmelling grass). Would that one day I could Drink the water of the Majanna, and Would that (The two mountains) Shama and Tafil would appear to me!" The Prophet ﷺ said, "O Allah! Curse Shaiba bin Rabiʿa and ʿUtba bin Rabiʿa and Umaiya bin Khalaf as they turned us out of our land to the land of epidemics." Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said, "O Allah! Make us love Medina as we love Mecca or even more than that. O Allah! Give blessings in our Sa and our Mudd (measures symbolizing food) and make the climate of Medina suitable for us, and divert its fever towards Aljuhfa." Aisha added: When we reached Medina, it was the most unhealthy of Allah's lands, and the valley of Bathan (the valley of Medina) used to flow with impure colored water.

When Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to Medina, Abu Bakr and Bilal got fever, and I went to both of them and said, "O my father, how do you feel? O Bilal, how do you feel?" Whenever Abu Bakr's fever got worse, he would say, "Every man will meet his death once in one morning while he will be among his family, for death is really nearer to him than his leather shoe laces (to his feet)." And whenever fever deserted Bilal, he would say aloud, "Would that I know whether I shall spend a night in the valley (of Mecca) with Idhkhir and Jalil (i.e. kinds of grass) around me, and whether I shall drink one day the water of Mijannah, and whether I shall see once again the hills of Shamah and Tafil?" Then I went to Messenger of Allah ﷺ and told him of that. He said, "O Allah, make us love Medina as much as or more than we used to love Mecca, O Allah, make it healthy and bless its Sa' and Mud (i.e. measures), and take away its fever to Al-Juhfa."

Yahya related to me from Malik from Hisham ibn Urwa from his father that A'isha, umm al-muminin said, "When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to Madina, Abu Bakr and Bilal came down with a fever. I visited them and said, 'Father, how are you? Bilal, how are you?'" She continued, "When Abu Bakr's fever worsened he would say, 'Every man is struck down among his people in the morning - death is nearer than the strap of his sandal.'" When it left Bilal, he raised his voice and said, 'Would that I knew whether I will spend a night at the valley of Makka with the idhkhir herb and jalil herb around me. Will I go one day to the waters of Majinna? Will the mountains of Shama and Tafil appear to me?' " ' A'isha continued, "I went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and informed him. He said, 'O Allah! Make us love Madina as much as we love Makka or even more. Make it sound and bless us in our sa and mudd. Remove its fever and put it in al-Juhfa.' "

[Machine] When the Prophet ﷺ arrived in Medina, his companions, Abu Bakr, 'Amir ibn Fuhayrah, who was a slave of Abu Bakr, and Bilal complained about their health. Aisha, the Prophet's wife, sought his permission to visit them, and he allowed her. She asked Abu Bakr how he was feeling, and he responded [with a verse from Al-Bahr al-Rajz], "Every person wakes up fine with his family, and death is closer than the strap of his sandal." She asked 'Amir, and he replied [with a verse from Al-Bahr al-Rajz], "I found death before experiencing its taste. The coward's death is coming upon him from above." She then asked Bilal, and he said [with a verse from Al-Bahr al-Tawil], "I wish my hair would shelter me for a night when there is bounty all around me." Aisha then informed the Prophet ﷺ of their words, and he looked at the sky and said, "O Allah, make Medina beloved to us as You made Mecca beloved to us. And O Allah, make it more abundant in blessings and prosperity for us. And let its epidemic be transferred to Al-Mahya'ah, which is Al-Juhfah, as they claim."

bayhaqi:6594Abū ʿAmr al-Adīb > Abū Bakr al-Ismāʿīlī > Jaʿfar b. Muḥammad al-Firyābī > al-Ḥasan b. Sufyān al-Nasawī > Qutaybah b. Saʿīd > Mālik > Hishām b. ʿUrwah from his father > ʿĀʾishah > Lammā Qadim Rasūl

He said, "O Allah, make us love Medina as much as or more than we used to love Mecca, O Allah, make it healthy and bless its Sa' and Mud (i.e. measures), and take away its fever to Al-Juhfa." (Using translation from Bukhārī 3926)
