Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to pray two light rakʿat before the morning (compulsory) prayer after the day dawned and the Mu'adh-dhin had finished his Adhan. He then would lie on his right side till the Mu'adh-dhin came to pronounce the Iqama.

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِذَا سَكَتَ الْمُؤَذِّنُ بِالأُولَى مِنْ صَلاَةِ الْفَجْرِ قَامَ فَرَكَعَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ خَفِيفَتَيْنِ قَبْلَ صَلاَةِ الْفَجْرِ بَعْدَ أَنْ يَسْتَبِينَ الْفَجْرُ ثُمَّ اضْطَجَعَ عَلَى شِقِّهِ الأَيْمَنِ حَتَّى يَأْتِيَهُ الْمُؤَذِّنُ لِلإِقَامَةِ

The Prophet ﷺ used to pray eleven rakʿat in the late part of the night, and when dawn appeared, he would offer two rakʿat and then lie on his right side till the Muadhdhin came to inform him (that the morning prayer was due).

عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ؓ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ يُصَلِّي مِنَ اللَّيْلِ إِحْدَى عَشْرَةَ رَكْعَةً فَإِذَا طَلَعَ الْفَجْرُ صَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ خَفِيفَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ اضْطَجَعَ عَلَى شِقِّهِ الأَيْمَنِ حَتَّى يَجِيءَ الْمُؤَذِّنُ فَيُؤْذِنَهُ

'A'isha reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to pray eleven rak'ahs at night, observing the Witr with a single rak'ah, and when he had finished them, he lay down on his right side, till the Mu'adhdhin came to him and he (the Holy Prophet) then observed two short rak'ahs (of Sunan of the dawn prayer).

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ كَانَ يُصَلِّي بِاللَّيْلِ إِحْدَى عَشْرَةَ رَكْعَةً يُوتِرُ مِنْهَا بِوَاحِدَةٍ فَإِذَا فَرَغَ مِنْهَا اضْطَجَعَ عَلَى شِقِّهِ الأَيْمَنِ حَتَّى يَأْتِيَهُ الْمُؤَذِّنُ فَيُصَلِّي رَكْعَتَيْنِ خَفِيفَتَيْنِ

"Messenger of Allah (S) would pray eleven Rak'ah at night, making them off with one. When he finished them he would lay down on his right side."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ كَانَ يُصَلِّي مِنَ اللَّيْلِ إِحْدَى عَشْرَةَ رَكْعَةً يُوتِرُ مِنْهَا بِوَاحِدَةٍ فَإِذَا فَرَغَ مِنْهَا اضْطَجَعَ عَلَى شِقِّهِ الأَيْمَنِ

"Between the time when he finished 'Isha' prayer and Fajr, the Prophet ﷺ used to pray eleven Rak'ahs, saying the Taslim after each two Rak'ahs, then praying Witr as one Rak'ah. He would prostrate for as long as it takes one of you to recite fifty verses, then he would raise his head. When the Mu'adhdhin finished the call to Fajr prayer and he could see the dawn, he would pray two brief Rak'ahs, then he would go out with him." Some of these narrators (Ibn Abi Dhi'b, Yunus and 'Amr bin Al-Harith) added some phrases not mentioned by the others in the Hadith.

The Prophet ﷺ used to pray eleven rak'ahs at night, ending them with one rak'ah of witr, then he would lie down on his right side.

The Prophet ﷺ used to pray eleven rak'ahs at night, of which one was witr, then he would lie down on his right side.

Yahya related to me from Malik from Ibn Shihab from Urwa ibn az- Zubayr from A'isha, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to pray eleven rakas in the night, making them odd by a single one, and when he had finished he lay down on his right side.

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to pray eleven rak'ahs between the completion of 'Isha prayer, which is when people are called to the darkness of dawn, and the dawn prayer. In each set of two rak'ahs, he would recite the salaam. Additionally, he would perform one witr rak'ah. When the muezzin finished calling for the dawn prayer and the dawn appeared to him, and the muezzin came to him, he would stand and perform two light rak'ahs, then lie down on his right side until the muezzin came to him with the call to establish the prayer.

«كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يُصَلِّي فِيمَا بَيْنَ أَنْ يَفْرُغَ مِنْ صَلَاةِ الْعِشَاءِ وَهِيَ الَّتِي يَدْعُو النَّاسُ الْعَتَمَةَ إِلَى الْفَجْرِ إِحْدَى عَشْرَةَ رَكْعَةً يُسَلِّمُ فِي كُلِّ رَكْعَتَيْنِ وَيُوتِرُ بِوَاحِدَةٍ فَإِذَا سَكَتَ الْمُؤَذِّنُ مِنْ صَلَاةِ الْفَجْرِ وَتَبَيَّنَ لَهُ الْفَجْرُ وَجَاءَهُ الْمُؤَذِّنُ قَامَ فَرَكَعَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ خَفِيفَتَيْنِ وَاضْطَجَعَ عَلَى شِقِّهِ الْأَيْمَنِ حَتَّى يَأْتِيَهُ الْمُؤَذِّنُ بِالْإِقَامَةِ»

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ كَانَ يصلي إحدى عشر ركعة يوتر منها بواحدة فإذا فرغ اضطجع على شقه الأيمن< حدثنا أحمد قال

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ كان يصلي إحدى عشرة يوتر منها بواحدة فإذا فرغ من صلاته اضطجع على شقه الأيمن

'A'isha reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to pray eleven rak'ahs at night, observing the Witr with a single rak'ah, and when he had finished them, he lay down on his right side, till the Mu'adhdhin came to him and he (the Holy Prophet) then observed two short rak'ahs (of Sunan of the dawn prayer). أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ كَانَ يُصَلِّي بِاللَّيْلِ إِحْدَى عَشْرَةَ رَكْعَةً يُوتِرُ مِنْهَا بِوَاحِدَةٍ فَإِذَا فَرَغَ مِنْهَا اضْطَجَعَ عَلَى شِقِّهِ الْأَيْمَنِ حَتَّى يَأْتِيَهُ الْمُؤَذِّنُ فَيُصَلِّيَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ خَفِيفَتَيْنِ

[AI] That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to pray eleven rak'ahs at night, in which he would make the witr prayer one rak'ah. And when he finished from it, he would lie on his right side until the mu'adhin came to him to pray two light rak'ahs.
