[Machine] I was with the Prophet ﷺ when the verse {O you who have believed, do not ask about things that, if they are shown to you, will distress you} [Surah Al-Ma'idah 101] was revealed to him. He said, "We used to ask Allah, and He would answer our prayers. But there are some servants of Allah who are not prophets or martyrs, and the prophets and martyrs envy them for their close position to Allah on the Day of Resurrection." Then he mentioned the hadith in its entirety.  

أحمد:٢٢٨٩٤حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي حُسَيْنٍ عَنْ شَهْرِ بْنِ حَوْشَبٍ عَنْ أَبِي مَالِكٍ الْأَشْعَرِيِّ قَالَ

كُنْتُ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَنَزَلَتْ عَلَيْهِ {يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لَا تَسْأَلُوا عَنْ أَشْيَاءَ إِنْ تُبْدَ لَكُمْ تَسُؤْكُمْ} [المائدة 101] قَالَ فَنَحْنُ نَسْأَلُهُ إِذْ قَالَ إِنَّ لِلَّهِ عِبَادٌ لَيْسُوا بِأَنْبِيَاءَ وَلَا شُهَدَاءَ يَغْبِطُهُمُ النَّبِيُّونَ وَالشُّهَدَاءُ؛ لِمَقْعَدِهِمْ وَقُرْبِهِمْ مِنَ اللهِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ بِطُولِهِ
