[Machine] "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was commanded to perform ablution before every prayer, whether he was in a state of ritual purity or not. When this became burdensome for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, he was then commanded to use a toothbrush (siwak) before every prayer, and ablution was no longer required for him except in cases of ritual impurity."  

أحمد:٢١٩٦٠حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي عَنِ ابْنِ إِسْحَاقَ حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى بْنِ حَبَّانَ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ ثُمَّ الْمَازِنِيُّ مَازِنُ بَنِي النَّجَّارِ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ قُلْتُ لَهُ أَرَأَيْتَ وُضُوءَ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ لِكُلِّ صَلَاةٍ طَاهِرًا كَانَ أَوْ غَيْرَ طَاهِرٍ عَمَّ هُوَ؟ فَقَالَ حَدَّثَتْهُ أَسْمَاءُ بِنْتُ زَيْدِ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ حَنْظَلَةَ بْنِ أَبِي عَامِرِ الْغَسِيلِ حَدَّثَهَا

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ كَانَ أُمِرَ بِالْوُضُوءِ لِكُلِّ صَلَاةٍ طَاهِرًا كَانَ أَوْ غَيْرَ طَاهِرٍ فَلَمَّا شَقَّ ذَلِكَ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ أُمِرَ بِالسِّوَاكِ عِنْدَ كُلِّ صَلَاةٍ وَوُضِعَ عَنْهُ الْوُضُوءُ إِلَّا مِنْ حَدَثٍ

[Machine] The messenger of Allah ﷺ was commanded to perform wudu (ablution) for every prayer, whether in a state of purity or impurity, and when this became burdensome for him, he was commanded to use the siwak (toothstick) for every prayer. Ibn Umar believed that it gave him strength, so he would not leave performing wudu for every prayer.
