A person came to him and said: Here is Ibn Hanzala who is making people swear allegiance to him. He (, Abdullah) asked: To what effect? He replied: To the effect that they will die for him. 'Abdullah said: I will never swear allegiance to this effect after the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. (Using translation from Muslim 1861)  

أحمد:١٦٤٦٣ – حَدَّثَنَا مُؤَمَّلٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا وُهَيْبٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ قِيلَ لِعَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ يَوْمَ الْحَرَّةِ هَلُمَّ إِلَى ابْنِ حَنْظَلَةَ يُبَايِعُ النَّاسَ قَالَ عَلَامَ يُبَايِعُهُمْ؟ قَالُوا عَلَى الْمَوْتِ قَالَ

لَا أُبَايِعُ عَلَيْهِ أَحَدًا بَعْدَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ

لاَ أُبَايِعُ عَلَى هَذَا أَحَدًا بَعْدَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ

الحاكم:٦٢١٥ – حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حَمْشَاذَ الْعَدْلُ ثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ غَالِبٍ ثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ ثَنَا وُهَيْبٌ ثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ عَبَّادِ بْنِ تَمِيمٍ قَالَ لَمَّا كَانَ زَمَنُ الْحَرَّةِ جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ فَقَالَ هَذَا ابْنُ حَنْظَلَةَ يُبَايِعُ النَّاسَ عَلَى الْمَوْتِ فَقَالَ

«لَا أُبَايِعُ عَلَى هَذَا أَحَدًا بَعْدَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ»  

هَذَا حَدِيثٌ صَحِيحٌ عَلَى شَرْطِ الشَّيْخَيْنِ وَلَمْ يُخَرِّجَاهُ على شرط البخاري ومسلم
