ahmad:14031 – ʿAffān > Ḥammād > Thābit And Ḥumayd > Anas

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed by a cemetery of the Bani Najjar tribe, while riding a pale mule. Suddenly, he saw a grave with its inhabitant being punished. The mule stumbled and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "If it were not for the fact that you cannot hear the torment of the grave, I would ask Allah to make you hear it."

أحمد:١٤٠٣١ – حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا ثَابِتٌ وَحُمَيْدٌ عَنْ أَنَسٍ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ مَرَّ بِمَقْبَرَةٍ لِبَنِي النَّجَّارِ فِي حَائِطٍوَهُوَ عَلَى بَغْلَةٍ شَهْبَاءَ فَإِذَا هُوَ بِقَبْرٍ يُعَذَّبُ فَحَاصَتِ الْبَغْلَةُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لَوْلَا أَنْ لَا تَدَافَنُوا لَسَأَلْتُ اللهَ أَنْ يُسْمِعَكُمْ عَذَابَ الْقَبْرِ

"When died this man die?" They said: "he died during the Jahiliyyah." So he was delighted and said: "Were it not that you would not bury one another, I would have prayed to Allah to make you hear the torment of the grave." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 2058)

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was riding a gray mule when he passed by a wall belonging to the Banu Najjar. Suddenly, he saw a grave in which its occupant was being punished. The mule halted and he said, "If you were not to be buried, I would have supplicated to Allah to make you hear the punishment of the grave."

أحمد:١٢٥٥٣ – حَدَّثَنَا حَسَنٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ مُوسَى حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ عَنْ ثَابِتٍ وَحُمَيْدٍ عَنْ أَنَسٍ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ كَانَ عَلَى بَغْلَةٍ شَهْبَاءَ فَمَرَّ عَلَى حَائِطٍ لِبَنِي النَّجَّارِ فَإِذَا هُوَ بِقَبْرٍ يُعَذَّبُ صَاحِبُهُ فَحَاصَتِ الْبَغْلَةُ فَقَالَ لَوْلَا أَنْ لَا تَدَافَنُوا لَدَعَوْتُ اللهَ أَنْ يُسْمِعَكُمْ عَذَابَ الْقَبْرِ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ مَرَّ عَلَى بَغْلَتِهِ الشَّهْبَاءِ بِحَائِطٍ لِبَنِي النَّجَّارِ فَسَمِعَ أَصْوَاتَ قَوْمٍ يُعَذَّبُونَ فِي قُبُورِهِمْ فَحَاصَتِ الْبَغْلَةُ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ لَوْلَا أَنْ لَا تَدَافَنُوا لَسَأَلْتُ اللهَ أَنْ يُسْمِعَكُمْ عَذَابَ الْقَبْرِ

[AI] The Prophet ﷺ passed by a date palm tree belonging to the Bani Al-Najjar tribe and heard a sound. He asked, "What is this?" They said, "It is the grave of a man who was buried during the era of ignorance."
