"Banu Salimah wanted to move from their homes to somewhere near the mosque, but the Prophet did not want the outskirts of Al-madinah to be left vacant, so he said: 'O Banu Salimah, do you not hope for the reward of your footsteps?' So they stayed (where they were)." (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 784)   

أحمد:١٣٧٧٠حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ بَكْرٍ حَدَّثَنَا حُمَيْدٌ عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ أَرَادَ بَنُو سَلِمَةَ أَنْ يَتَحَوَّلُوا

عَنْ مَنَازِلِهِمْ إِلَى قُرْبِ الْمَسْجِدِ فَكَرِهَ نَبِيُّ اللهِ ﷺ أَنْ تَعْرَى الْمَدِينَةُ فَقَالَ يَا بَنِي سَلِمَةَ أَلَا تَحْتَسِبُونَ آثَارَكُمْ

(The people of) Bani Salama intended to shift near the mosque (of the Prophet) but Messenger of Allah ﷺ disliked to see Medina vacated and said, "O the people of Bani Salama! Don't you think that you will be rewarded for your footsteps which you take towards the mosque?" So, they stayed at their old places.

[Machine] From their houses, they approached the mosque and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ disliked that the city would be naked. So he said, "O Banu Salimah, don't you consider your footprints?" They said, "Yes," so they sat down.
