ahmad:13561 – ʿAffān > Ḥammād b. Salamah > Abū al-Tayyāḥ > Anas b. Mālik

[Machine] The location of the mosque of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was owned by the tribe of Al-Najjar. It had a field, palm trees, and the graves of the polytheists. The Prophet ﷺ said, "O tribe of Al-Najjar, give it to me for eighty measures of dates." They replied, "We do not seek any price for it except with Allah." So he cut down the palm trees, leveled the field, and dug up the graves of the polytheists. The Prophet ﷺ used to pray where he found himself when it was time for prayer, even in the sheep pens. While they were moving rocks for the construction of the mosque, the Prophet ﷺ used to say, "O Allah, the good is the good of the Hereafter, so forgive the Ansar and the Muhajireen."  

أحمد:١٣٥٦١ – حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ عَنْ أَبِي التَّيَّاحِ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ

كَانَ مَوْضِعُ مَسْجِدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ لِبَنِي النَّجَّارِ وَكَانَ فِيهِ حَرْثٌ وَنَخْلٌ وَقُبُورُ الْمُشْرِكِينَ فَقَالَ يَا بَنِي النَّجَّارِ ثَامِنُونِي بِهِ فَقَالُوا لَا نَبْتَغِي بِهِ ثَمَنًا إِلَّا عِنْدَ اللهِ قَالَ فَقَطَعَ النَّخْلَ وَسَوَّى الْحَرْثَ وَنَبَشَ قُبُورَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ قَالَ وَكَانَ نَبِيُّ اللهِ ﷺ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَبْنِيَ الْمَسْجِدَ يُصَلِّي حَيْثُ أَدْرَكَتْهُ الصَّلَاةُ وَفِي مَرَابِضِ الْغَنَمِ وَكَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ يَقُولُ وَهُمْ يَنْقُلُونَ الصَّخْرَ لِبِنَاءِ الْمَسْجِدِ اللهُمَّ إِنَّ الْخَيْرَ خَيْرُ الْآخِرَهْ فَاغْفِرْ لِلْأَنْصَارِ وَالْمُهَاجِرَهْ

"The location where the Prophet's Mosque was built belonged to Banu Najjar. In it there were date-palm trees and graves of the idolaters. The Prophet said to them: 'Name its price.' They said: 'We will never take any money for it.' The Prophet built it and they were assisting him, and the Prophet was saying: 'The real life is the life of the Hereafter so forgive the Ansar and the Muhajirah.' Before the mosque was built, the Prophet would perform prayer wherever he was when the time for prayer came."  

ابن ماجة:٧٤٢ – حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ سَلَمَةَ عَنْ أَبِي التَّيَّاحِ الضُّبَعِيِّ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ

كَانَ مَوْضِعُ مَسْجِدِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ لِبَنِي النَّجَّارِ وَكَانَ فِيهِ نَخْلٌ وَمَقَابِرُ لِلْمُشْرِكِينَ فَقَالَ لَهُمُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ ثَامِنُونِي بِهِ قَالُوا لاَ نَأْخُذُ لَهُ ثَمَنًا أَبَدًا قَالَ فَكَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ يَبْنِيهِ وَهُمْ يُنَاوِلُونَهُ وَالنَّبِيُّ ﷺ يَقُولُ أَلاَ إِنَّ الْعَيْشَ عَيْشُ الآخِرَةِ فَاغْفِرْ لِلأَنْصَارِ وَالْمُهَاجِرَةِ قَالَ وَكَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ يُصَلِّي قَبْلَ أَنْ يَبْنِيَ الْمَسْجِدَ حَيْثُ أَدْرَكَتْهُ الصَّلاَةُ

[Machine] The location of the mosque of the Prophet ﷺ used to belong to the Bani Najjar tribe. It had palm trees, cultivated land, and graves from the time of ignorance. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ desired to purchase it from them, so he asked them, but they said, "We do not wish for any price except with Allah." So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded the palm trees to be cut, the cultivated land to be destroyed, and the graves to be dug up. Before that, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to pray in the sheep pens, where the prayer caught up with him.  

أحمد:١٢٢٤٢ – حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ أَخْبَرَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ عَنْ أَبِي التَّيَّاحِ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ

كَانَ مَوْضِعُ مَسْجِدِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ لِبَنِي النَّجَّارِ وَكَانَ فِيهِ نَخْلٌ وَحَرْثٌ وَقُبُورٌ مِنْ قُبُورِ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ فَقَالَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ ثَامِنُونِي فَقَالُوا لَا نَبْتَغِي بِهِ ثَمَنًا إِلَّا عِنْدَ اللهِ ﷻ فَأَمَرَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِالنَّخْلِ فَقُطِعَ وَبِالْحَرْثِ فَأُفْسِدَ وَبِالْقُبُورِ فَنُبِشَتْ وَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ قَبْلَ ذَلِكَ يُصَلِّيفِي مَرَابِضِ الْغَنَمِ حَيْثُ أَدْرَكَتْهُ الصَّلَاةُ
