ahmad:12373Bahz And ʿAffān > Hammām b. Yaḥyá > Qatādah

“We used to go to (visit) Anas bin Malik.” (One of the narrators) Ishaq said: “And his baker was standing there.” (In another narration) Darimi said: “And his table was set. He said one day: ‘(Come and) eat, for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ never saw any thin loaf of bread until he met Allah, nor any roasted sheep (with skin).’”* (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 3339)   

أحمد:١٢٣٧٣حَدَّثَنَا بَهْزٌ وَعَفَّانُ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا هَمَّامُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ قَتَادَةَ قَالَ كُنَّا نَأْتِي أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ وَخَبَّازُهُ قَائِمٌ قَالَ فَقَالَ

We used to visit Anas bin Malik while his baker was standing (and baking). Anas would say, "Eat! I do not know that the Prophet ﷺ had ever seen well-baked bread till he met Allah, nor had he ever seen a roasted sheep with his own eyes."

We used to go to Anas bin Malik and see his baker standing (preparing the bread). Anas said, "Eat. I have not known that the Prophet ﷺ ever saw a thin well-baked loaf of bread till he died, and he never saw a roasted sheep with his eyes."

[Machine] One day, they ate, and by Allah, I do not know that the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , ever saw a thin loaf of bread or a skinny sheep until he met with his Lord.

ذِكْرُ الْبَيَانِ بِأَنَّ الْمُصْطَفَى ﷺ كَانَ يُجَانِبُ اتِّخَاذَ الْأَسْبَابِ فِي الْأَكْلِ وَالشُّرْبِ إِلَّا أَنْ تَعْتَرِيَهُ أَحْوَالٌ لَا يَكُونُ مِنْهُ الْقَصْدُ فِيهَا
