[Machine] A group of Bani Israel would fast during the day, and when nightfall came and the food was set, they would consider it an affliction among themselves. A man from amongst them would stand up and say, "Do not eat too much, for then you will drink too much and sleep too much."  

الزهد لأحمد:٥٢٨حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنَا أبِي أَخْبَرَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ دَاوُدَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ مَالِكَ بْنَ أَنَسٍ قَالَ حُدِّثْتُ

أَنَّ نَفَرًا مِنْ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ يَصُومُونَ النَّهَارَ فَإِذَا كَانَ اللَّيْلُ وَوُضِعَ الطَّعَامُ جَعَلُوا ذَلِكَ نَوَائِبَ بَيْنَهُمْ؛ يَقُومُ رَجُلٌ مِنْهُمْ فَيَقُولُ لَا تَأْكُلُوا كَثِيرًا فَتَشْرَبُوا كَثِيرًا فَتَرْقُدُوا كَثِيرًا
