ahmad-zuhd:2089ʿAbdullāh from my father > Abū Muʿāwiyah > al-Aʿmash > Ibrāhīm al-Taymī > Abīh Yazīd b. Sharīk

[Machine] "He bought slaves for four thousand from Basra, and they built him a house. Then he sold them for a profit of four thousand. I said to him, 'Father, if you were to return to Basra and buy similar ones, you would have made a profit from them.' He said, 'O son, why do you say this to me? By Allah, I did not rejoice when I acquired them, nor did I ever think of returning and encountering a similar situation.'"  

الزهد لأحمد:٢٠٨٩حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ التَّيْمِيِّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ يَزِيدَ بْنِ شَرِيكٍ

أَنَّهُ اشْتَرَى رَقِيقًا بِأَرْبَعَةِ آلَافٍ مِنَ الْبَصْرَةِ فَبَنَوْا لَهُ دَارَهُ قَالَ ثُمَّ بَاعَهُمْ بِرِبْحِ أَرْبَعَةِ آلَافٍ قَالَ فَقُلْتُ لَهُ يَا أَبَتِ لَوْ عُدْتَ إِلَى الْبَصْرَةِ فَاشْتَرَيْتَ مِثْلَ هَؤُلَاءِ فَرَبِحْتَ فِيهِمْ قَالَ «يَا بُنَيَّ لِمَ تَقُولُ لِي هَذَا؟ فَوَاللَّهِ مَا فَرِحْتُ بِهَا حِينَ أَصَبْتُهَا وَلَا حَدَّثْتُ نَفْسِي أَنْ أَعُودَ فَأُصِيبَ مِثْلَهَا»
