الزهد لأحمد:٢٠٨٨ – حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنِي خَلَّادُ بْنُ أَسْلَمَ حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ خُثَيْمٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ الضَّبِّيِّ قَالَ لَمْ نَكُنْ نَدْرِي كَيْفَ يَقْرَأُ خَيْثَمَةُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي سَبْرَةَ الْقُرْآنَ حَتَّى مَرِضَ فَثَقُلَ فَجَاءَتْهُ امْرَأَتُهُ وَجَلَسَتْ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ فَبَكَتْ فَقَالَ لَهَا مَا يُبْكِيكِ؟ الْمَوْتُ لَا بُدَّ مِنْهُ فَقَالَتِ الْمَرْأَةُ الرِّجَالُ بَعْدَكَ عَلَيَّ حَرَامٌ فَقَالَ لَهَا خَيْثَمَةُ «مَا كُلَّ هَذَا أَرَدْتُ مِنْكِ إِنَّمَا كُنْتُ أَخَافُ رَجُلًا وَاحِدًا وَهُوَ أَخِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ وَهُوَ رَجُلٌ فَاسِقٌ يَتَنَاوَلُ هَذَا الشَّرَابَ [291] فَكَرِهْتُ

أَنْ يُشْرَبَ فِي بَيْتِي الشَّرَابُ بَعْدَ إِذِ الْقُرْآنُ يُتْلَى فِيهِ فِي كُلِّ ثَلَاثٍ»
