ahmad-zuhd:2078ʿAbdullāh from my father > Ḥajjāj > al-Masʿūdī > ʿĀṣim > Abū Wāʾil

[Machine] He used to, when he would come out of the last part of the night, place his forehead on the ground and say, "Oh Allah, if You should cause me to die, then cause me to die in a state of Islam, and if You should give me life, then cause me to live in a state of Islam, and if You should cause me to live longer, then cause me to live as a Muslim and never let me die except as a Muslim."  

الزهد لأحمد:٢٠٧٨حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجٌ حَدَّثَنَا الْمَسْعُودِيُّ عَنْ عَاصِمٍ عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ

أَنَّهُ كَانَ إِذَا خَرَجَ مِنَ الْعِشَاءِ الْآخِرَةِ وَضْعَ جَبْهَتَهُ سَاجِدًا ثُمَّ قَالَ «اللَّهُمَّ إِنْ تَعْفُ عَنِّي تَعْفُ عَنِّي طَوْلًا مِنْكَ وَإِنْ تُعَذِّبْنِي تُعَذِّبْنِي غَيْرَ ظَالِمٍ وَلَا مَسْبُوقٍ»
