الزهد لأحمد:١٩٢٩حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنِي يُوسُفُ الصَّفَّارُ مَوْلَى بَنِي أُمَيَّةَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ يَعْنِي ابْنَ عَيَّاشٍ عَنْ عَاصِمٍ قَالَ قِيلَ لِلرَّبِيعِ بْنِ خُثَيْمٍ أَلَا تَتَمَثَّلُ بِبَيْتِ شِعْرٍ فَقَدْ كَانَ أَصْحَابُكَ يَتَمَثَّلُونَ؟ قَالَ

«مَا مِنْ شَيْءٍ يُتَكَلَّمُ بِهِ إِلَّا كُتِبَ وَأَنَا أَكْرَهُ أَنْ أَقْرَأَ فِي إِمَامِي يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ بِبَيْتِ شِعْرٍ»
