ahmad-zuhd:1717ʿAbdullāh > Muḥammad b. al-Ṣabbāḥ al-Bazzār Abū Jaʿfar > Ismāʿīl b. Ziyād > Ṭalḥah b. Yaḥyá

[Machine] May Allah grant you, O Amir al-Mu'minin, a long life as long as it is good for you. As for that, it has already been accomplished. However, say, "May Allah grant you a good life and make you die among the righteous."  

الزهد لأحمد:١٧١٧حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الصَّبَّاحِ الْبَزَّارُ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ عَنْ طَلْحَةَ بْنِ يَحْيَى قَالَ كُنْتُ جَالِسًا عِنْدَ عُمَرَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ فَجَاءَهُ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ

لَهُ يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ أبْقَاكَ اللَّهُ مَا كَانَ الْبَقَاءُ خَيْرًا لَكَ فَقَالَ أَمَّا ذَاكَ فَقَدْ فُرِغَ مِنْهُ وَلَكِنْ قُلْ «أَحْيَاكَ اللَّهُ حَيَاةً طَيِّبَةً وَتَوَفَّاكَ مَعَ الْأَبْرَارِ»
